MSC - Cancels stop at Ocean Cay Marine Reserve

Hi All,

I recently booked a cruise from Miami in April 2024, and the main draw for this was the one of the cruise destnations - namely Ocean Cay Reserve in the Bahamas.

I have just found out by pure luck that MSC has decided to close the island from April through to May 2024 and therefore we won't be stopping here as planned.

Has this impacted anyone else and if so what were you offered?

Does anyone know when they took this decision as I am confident that they must have been aware of this when I made my booking via an agent.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

D

Please keep us posted on what happens!

MSC states that they want to become the predominant cruise line in the Caribbean. Good luck on that one. I have heard some good about MSC and have also heard some bad things. Enough to not consider them out of NY as they are porting a ship there now or soon. Also they are not a public company but privately held.

First, to be honest, I don't have a dog in the hunt. But i can tell you that whilst fooling around with your topic I discovered that Ocean Cay seems to close ALOT, affecting lots of lines and ships.Second, your suspicion that your TA "knew" is probably correct. I would find your lack of notification (finding out by pure luck) very worrisome. The excuse might be that if you do nothing, you're voting to cruise anyway. But there is no excuse for lack of notification, and don't let them weasel around like its some how YOUR fault. If you merely research "MSC closes OCEAN CAY" you'll get more info than you know what to do with. I assume (hah!) that you know the cancellation policy...and THEN I would be having a one-on-one with your TA. THATS what they're there for....to avoid this kind of nonsense. Let us know how it turns out!! GOOD LUCK!!!
