Does Royal Caribbean have a serious crew morale problem?

Out of skeighty eight thousand employees world wide, wonder what the incidence of suicide is...im sure its a secret. Not just RCI, but anybodys cruise line....Been well explored (and exploited) forever, but the incidence of suicide amongst the military and law enforcement is a bigger problem, and apparently, of no concern. Some things just never change...bah.. I assume you clicked on some of the ridiculous cyber commentary that followed...

The page I linked to had three or four stories about it. One of the stories stated that three crewmembers in the last few months - and at least two of them were entertainers.

I agree with your pointing out the stats, but this is one cruise line out of many, and one job on that cruise line out of many.

Your point is that many LEOs commit suicide, so it is nothing to be alarmed about if one city's police department has three suicides in as many months -- to me that would seem like a problem.

As far as the comments, I only read those for entertainment reasons. It is Yahoo! after all.

Agreed. So you're implying that RCL's employment practices and workplace standards are such that they have more suicides than whatever the industry standard is? This is a VERY slippery slope. And I certainly didn't mean to imply that under any circumstances Law Enforcement or military suicides are OK..for many of my brothers, the war continued long after we got home.

The CDC has recently released information that the suicide rate is increasing across the US in every state except NV. It is sadly probably widespread enough that the cruise industry has the same increase. Sorry for the family when death is far away and you didn't know there might be a problem.

Sorry - I was using the LEO as an example, not to imply that you were stating it was OK.

I do, however, believe that RCL may need to revisit their shipboard SOPs as it relates to entertainers. Too many, in too short a time, across a small, defined cross-section to be a coincidence.

Pinkie - I agree that the suicide rate is up across the board (suprised, though, that Nevada is excluded), and I do believe the press cannot be trusted to tell the full truth in their stories, however I do believe that they would jump on the opportunity to "report" on any cruise line, not just pick RCL out and ignore the others.

I am not harboring ill will toward the line, only hoping that their senior management look into the possibilities of a severe problem that may be developing, and fix it before it gets worse.

Agreed, down the line...especially your comment re the media. Incomplete, out of context, incorrect implications, all seem to be ok. mere news reporting is out of style.. I suspect we agree on more than we disagree..don't spread it around....

I promise to not tell anyone!

Sometimes I wonder with crew overboard whether it is in fact suicide or whether there is some foul play ... They have cameras and would need to check the footage but I am sure there are a few blind spots and crew would know where they are ...

Not me... I'm telling... "hey, everyone, guess what?

I never said that.

You have no proof I said that.

I know for a fact that you and Yankee get along!
