Independent vs ships shore excursion to Giza & The Sphinx - recent experience

Hi

Has anyone taken a shore excursion either from Alexandria to Giza Pyramids/Cairo Museum recently and what was the experience like? I am getting feedback that its a pretty grim excursion with armed security guards escorting the buses to the Pyramids and then being aggressively hassled by vendors selling goods. (In addition to no a/c in vans)

this is one of our bucket list stops so hoping for positive detail back on their trip. We are in port from 0400hrs to 2300hrs so not too stressed about missing the ship

Our cruise line hasnt detailed their shore excursions yet (we sail 23 Oct) but keen to see what options are available. I am fine with ships shore excursions but feel like a smaller mini van with 10-12 people would be more enjoyable in terms of getting around

thanks
