Question about Rome and Florence logistics

I will be with Viking next spring in the Mediterranean with stops at Civitavecchia going to Rome and Livorno going to Florence. I'm planning on using the own your own excursions for transport into the cities and back but meet a private guide (I have been to Italy several times and speak Italian, I am taking my mother before she is too old). Does anyone know where in Florence the bus would drop us off and about what time? What about in Rome, they say they drop you off near the Vatican, but where do the busses typically drop you off and about what time?

I've heard the Port they call Rome is actually Civitavecchia which is an hour drive from actual Rome.

I just came back from a cruise in Italy, and Florence was a madhouse. We were on a tour, and the crowds were terrible. We only really had time to do an outside walking tour, rather than any inside visits. It took more than a hour to even reach the city from Livorno.

Sorry, but I would not even attempt a day trip to Rome from Civi, although I know people do it all the time. The city is huge, and there is just too much to see and do. We spend about four days in Rome pre-cruise whenever we cruise there, and the time always goes too quickly.

You could probably get more information from Viking cruisers about their specific experiences! I do say I would trust the Viking transportation over doing anything on my own. Buon viaggio!

I recommend you post this question on the Shipmate app. There seems to be more activity there.
