How is Wifi on the Breakaway?

We're looking at possibly going on the Breakaway March 7-14 2020. Know about the amenities, gratuity issues, and now we're looking for wifi input. My parents have been on two NCL ships with terrible internet and were never reimbursed for the lack of service. A little nervous about going with NCL after reading reviews here. This would be our 7th or 8th cruise (10th?have lost track), always happy with both RC and Carnival.

Great information, thank you! My parents have sailed with NCL 2 years ago & the year before that. So, most likely, the wifi has been updated since then. Looks like we will probably be a go for March!

We were on Breakaway last February. Internet was fine. If you are used to 50-100 mbps, you might not think so, but we had no complaints about it. When were your parents on NCL? Wi-fi on cruise ships has improved a lot over the years. There are too many factors involved with bad or no internet service to expect a refund in most cases.

We've been on BREAKAWAY 2x also. they "give" us 250 minutes because of the promotion they had at the time of booking. the time before that we traded a $50 port credit for the 250 minutes...not counting the 30 min each we "get" for being platinum, among other things......They offer all kinds of so-called freebies all the time. some of which we really have no use for. including the internet minutes. their internet center onboard is excellent, and attended. On the other hand, the rates NCL charges for cruising are generally higher than others...so much for "free". Suggest you log into your account and play...you might be surprised, and save a serious bunch of $$. we've been known to find a better deal and "rebook" the same cabin...depending on how close to the actual cruise you are...for that we actually call em...we're going on GETAWAY in a few weeks and got the same deal..and we didn't do anything special except book it early...mainly to get the cabin we wanted.

BTW, when you say "agent" did you mean somebody at NCL or a travel agent? It'd be a cold day in hell b4 I'd pay $300 for internet access to ANYBODY,.

good luck

Thanks ! The agent told us the $300 (gasp ) package would be the best option for us . So much for "free".

We were on Breakaway 2 years ago and we purchased the wifi package, We were quite happy with it and had no issues. The package then (not sure if it has changed since was based on throughput so you bought x MB of data throughput (most other NCL ships sell packages based on minutes of on line time). The key to a package based on throughput is to make sure streaming is not used and turn off any auto update features. Also the package was device based so only 1 device can be registered and used.
