Besides pushy vendors that are easy to blow off. I only felt threatened in Nassau one time out of the 3 times I have been there. In the 80s I was in the USCG on WHEC Gallatin and we stopped in St. Thomas for a day before a cruise ship booted us. We were told that Navy personnel in the past were murdered there and the locals were pushy and demanding. Cruise lines stopped going until St Thomas USVI cleaned up its act.

I have just had the pushy vendors and the "you guys need a date, my sister is free" when down in Mexico....... but being a seasoned traveler I knew 1. It was not a "date". 2. It was not his sister. 3. it sure as hell would not have been "Free"
