Hallelujah----I'm getting ahold of HAL and asking them to put us back on their future mailing list.

http://f.e.hollandamerica.com/i/41/1010169812/Smoking_Policy.pdf Hope this isn't a gag. If not this places HAL as one of the most restrictive smoking lines now. Princess is tough but they offer exclusive cigar and cigarette lounges i.e. "Churchill's". Apparently due concerns from world cruisers who have already booked because of HAL's lenient smoking policy the Amsterdam and Prinsendam do not get the updated policy until April and May.

Don't know, my guess was that HAL wasn't going to drop the balcony smoking now that a lot of smokers from other lines have gravitated over to them until they had a chance to put exclusive smoking lounges in all their ships i.e. Princess "Churchill's". I realized that some lines, with real restrictive smoking policies, like Celebrity, don't have them but thought HAL having now built a reputation for the only balcony smoking game in town (except for Costa now) wouldn't be able to put up with the heat. Since they hadn't even put one in their newest ship which was recently launched I suspicioned it would be a long while before they got rid of balcony smoking. Then out of the blue, they cut it out. I sure would like to be a "bug on the wall" and learn the background of Stein Kruse's rationale for the policy change.

Great news!!! Wonder why it took so long for HAL to do what the other lines have been doing?

Wonderful!

Great news! Before other cruise lines implemented similar restrictions, we found our balcony to be almost unusable more than once due to non-stop smoking on a neighboring balcony.

I quit smoking over a year ago. and I did not know until recently how bad it could smell. I guess in the case of heavy smokers like myself---we went "Nose-Blind" I'm kinda glad to hear about changes.

So they are finally up to standards of other cruise lines. Lets see hoe long it takes to re-train the smokers to pay attention to the new rules.

Works for me.
