Finding the Ducks - App?

Hey all

I have just got off of a cruise and had a thought. How many people love to find the ducks that get hidden around the ship, I know its very popular sailing from the UK but not too sure about other countries.

Is there an app to help find the ducks? a bit like geocaching but within a ship?

If one does not exist what are people's thoughts about one being made? You would select the ship you're on, then hide the duck take a picture of it, give it a name, set clues on how to find it and then mark it on the app on the deck plan, so others can have a hunt. When someone finds it they can also take a picture, and type something in a digital log so you/the family know who has found it. Other things could happen such as a cruise competition on who could find the most, setting up ducks with a tag on the app saying take me all over the world, so you and other cruisers can try to see how far you can get a duck to go.

What are your thoughts

Coming from a techie (I actually volunteer for Google, so I'm about as techie as you can get), I don't think having an app is a good idea for finding ducks. It's supposed to be a fun game to create memories with families, an app would just turn it into competition to see who can find the most ducks.

Shhh word on the Seas, the cruise lines do not like us playing hide and seek with the ducks! Its not gonna stop people from trying, but you know that ledge you put that duck on is the otta bounds area? Safety is the most important factor. I have seen a crew member putting them out in the morning on a RCL ship a few years back as i was lounging in the hot tub...next thing i see is this guy following getting all of them...i said to him how many he found, he said 12 in his cabin so far? I asked if he was going to re hide them and he looked at me funny?

Thanks,

Yes, as usual it was a brilliant post. Probably one of my best. That's why it was taken down by the powers that be. They just can't handle my genius (which by the way is only exceeded by my humility).

Here is a brief synopsis of my post

I knew nothing about hidden ducks prior to this last cruise. We were in an elevator on the CCL Spirit with a woman who found a hidden duck. She explained the whole hidden duck thing to us. I felt like a "cruise rube" for about 5 seconds, then forgot all about it, until today.

I'm not interested in any new App, or even playing "hide the duck" (does that sound dirty?)

PS: She pocketed the duck. Says they're her "cruise souvenirs" that she keeps in a curio cabinet.... Whatever

Welcome back AB!! Hope it was a good one! As usual, your post went AWOL. It did look interesting, what I was able to read of it.

Love finding and hiding ducks! I just don't think I'd want an app. I like to be as unplugged as possible. I only buy the $5 ship chat to keep up with my daughter and sister. I don't purchase internet plans. I think an app would force me into that and I don't need it that much. But I do love the thrill of beating my daughter (16yr) to find the most ducks.

Could care less about s/a ducks....and apparently first DISNEY and then CCL don't think too much of them either...besides, seems to me the "fun" (if you could call it that for adults) is happening upon them, not using technology....and AP is right...I have a screens worth on mine, and they all are actually useful..haven't added or deleted one in way over a year...looked over folks shoulders at their home screens....you would think they're planning a trip to Mars....

I like finding ducks, but usually give them away or re-hide them. I don’t like to have many APPs on my phone. Sounds like a lot of work to set up this APP. But I would be interested in how all this proceeds. Good luck!
