Sorry you didn't make it to Cozumel because it is one of my favorite ports too! You didn't say why the itinerary was changed but be glad for the $50 because if you read your cruise contract, you will see that the cruise line has the right to change the itinerary for any reason (and do not have to give you anything). Sounds like there was stormy weather that caused the line to change the itinerary.

This was the worst cruise I have ever been on. The service was terrible. You did not even notify me until 3 days before that the cruise had changed port locations. Progreso was awful compared to Cozumel where the cruise was intended to go. I would ask for a refund, but that would never happen. Going during the offseason, you must be prepared for rough waters. The boat rocked the whole time and if you do not bring medicine you will most likely get sick.
The worst part is that Carnival said "sorry here is $50 to spend on the cruise." Absolutely insulting. $50?!
I intend to not only not use but I will also explain my situation to my entire social circle. No apologies from just a letter informing of the change.
I'm calling bogus on your part. You failed to provide to us Carnivals reason for changing ports and a Ships Master will not change course on a whim and after reading the boat rocked the whole time, I'm guessing that weather and the condition of the seas at the port prevented the Ships Master from docking at the port you had hoped for.
For me a $50.00 OBC will go a long way and I still get to visit somewhere that I haven't been to before.
I'm ctav and approve this message.
It would be disappointing to have the itinerary changed, but it can happen - you were lucky to get some advance notice about it. Lots of times the port is cancelled that same day. The cruise contract does explain that it could happen. I think it was great that you were given some OBC, which they are not obligated to give. If you were not fond of Progresso, you could have gone back onboard to enjoy the food, entertainment, and time on the ship.
Let me see... Cozumel or Progresso.......... Hmm. yeah sorry but you got screwed but what do you do ... Question how were the views of the concrete plants,, yuk.......... Progresso got to be kidding.......
I have sailed on The Liberty but I have never sailed out of Galveston.
It is always frustrating when the itinerary is changed.
I don't mean to pick at the issue but why wasn't the ship able to make Cozumel on-time? Was it an issue with the ship, weather etc? A lot of thought, planning and navigation decisions are in the works for ships to make itinerary's so unless there was a reason why it wasn't fast enough to make Cozumel on-time, it leaves me confused!
They have had persistent engine problems with the pods to the point that they have relocated the ship to FL for shorter trips

The itinerary was changed because the ship was not able to travel at a speed to get us to Cozumel on time. I understand the risks of taking a cruise, I just think it was handled poorly.
As CruisinTim points out, your cruise contract is fairly clear as to itinerary changes. These changes usually happen for good reason, not on a whim. It is an unfortunate risk of cruising.
