Carnival Cutbacks

Carnival is doing away with the platinum and diamond gathering plus a couple of eating venues till june 30 so they say staffing issues. They are going to give drink coupons instead. Being as I am anti social, I could care less if they cancel that gathering, it is just a bunch of people crowded grabbing drinks and praising the Mardi Gras. Give me my coupons and I will be happy. Wondering if all these cutbacks are going instead of tacking a fuel sur charge?

I agree. Evidently, they think more people are going with the self assist and don't even monitor the peg board. Personally, I think it would be better to have someone (crew, maybe fun squad) there to "assist" the passengers in getting the best number for their needs. But as with so many things in this world; "no one asked me".

I just finished a Carnival Magic sailing, 15th-21st. This may be old news since I hadn't cruised since 2019, but they changed the way debarkation luggage tags were handled. It really pissed me off!!! At some point before 11:30AM on the last sea day they setup a pegboard display in one of the lounge areas and put all the tags on it. No one monitored the display so the first people to see it were able to literally grab ALL the tags. Someone reported seeing one woman grab 3 pegs of tags. The debarkation instruction meeting was conducted in the main theater by the cruise director between 11AM-12PM. By the time it concluded the tags were all gone. People lined up at customer service only to be told sorry tough luck.

My wife spotted a woman walking around with a handful of tags and asked where she got them and she gave her the 2 we needed. There were also reports of tags on eBay.

DISGUSTED with that move by Carnival.

As I understand it, they are short of crew, by canceling these activities, the crew can be working in “normal” areas. Personally, I usually get only one drink. We seem to be invisible to the roving wait staff. If you are cutting back, it’s probably the most logical place. However, I think they are over filling the ships with passengers. Just an opinion.

So you had to go and mention those dirty words "fuel surcharge" no amount of cutbacks on board will even put a dent in their fuel costs...it seems inevitable....

It's hard to say. I'm a loyalty member of RC and Celebrity, I know I'd be upset if they took away the Captain's Club/Crown And Anchor Society gathering. It's the perfect time during the cruise where they do something special for us, especially now since some of our perks are being taken away. I don't think canceling the Repeat Cruisers gathering for Carnival will go over well for the guests.
