We are 4 adults wishing to rent a car in St Maarten. We did this approx 14 yrs ago. Have you had any experience with any of the companies there? Please share experiences, thoughts, advice, tips. Thanks!

I would also add that if you do rent a car, take plenty of pictures of the exterior before you leave the rental.....with so many speed bumps and potholes when we returned our car, they wanted to charge us for damage that was already done, luckily I had my photos to prove all damage was already there!

I was just there in June 2019. The traffic is horrific and there are a lot of one way streets, so you are back tracking. The french side is worse than the dutch side. The hurricane that hit 2 years ago damaged some roads that still are not repaired yet. We took a cab to Mullet Bay Beach (dutch side) and when got there, the guy asked when we had to be back on the ship we told him 4:30 pm and he said "ok I will make sure you are IN a cab heading back to port at 2:30 pm." Our cab driver said she was on the French side at 11 am and it took her 2 hours to get to the dutch side. The ride back took over an hour. I can't even imagine driving on that island.

We are cruising to Saint Martin twice in the next year. I have rented a car there before but the traffic was horrible. We now rent cabs.
