Booze Package

Free doesn't mean free. an 11 day voyage, $20 per day gratuity per person...(two people per cabin) you need to drink $440 worth of booze to break even. just like free health care...it ain't free

Although I rarely partake of alcohol in real life, I tend to make up for it on a cruise. It's nice not trying to keep track of how much I will owe at the end of a cruise (which really puts a damper on having fun).

That is why we wanted to try it! If only my DH used it, he came out close to even. I am a light-weight when it comes to alcohol, so I spent more on sodas and coffees (which I rarely get, normally). We came close and it was nice to try drinks I might not be willing to spend the money is case I didn't like it. So, I think it is worth the try, and for some it is a bargain.

I always buy my own at a time... My bar bill after a week that I prepay with cruse cash is about $400. That's about over a full day 8 beers or drinks... I also don't buy a package because I don't want to get cut off.😊

DH and I have been discussing if it will be worth it for this coming trip and haven't purchased it as of yet. I think for me, I like not having to worry about the additional cost coming out of my bank account. I prefer to walk on the ship with everything pre-paid with the exception of souvenirs.

We've had it twice; once on Princess (include in the booking package) and once on Carnival (we bought ourselves) and found we didn't break even. We drank more than we normally do, including the extra non-alcoholic drinks, but not enough to make it worth the cost. so it's back to a-la-carte for us.

When my DH and I cruise in May 2017, we found that we would have spent a lot less had we paid a la carte however, we also were not really taking full advantage of the package including the specialty coffees which we both would have done had we thought about it. This time around, being that we are going to be on a 7 day cruise, I think we will take more advantage of the other items that are included in the booze package.

In most cases, drinking 6 alcoholic drinks per day is the break-even point for drink packages. If you add in all the non-alcoholic drinks that you may partake in, the number drops.

The packages are expensive, but so is the a la carte.
