Anyone been on a New Years cruise? Thoughts?

My wife and I are thinking about celebrating our 20 year anniversary by going on a New Years cruise. Has anyone done this and what are your thoughts? What cruise line did you go with? Any additional perks by going on New Years? Thanks!

Any information received here is very valuable to me, because I am going on my first cruise and have no experience yet.

We’ve been on New Year cruises the last two years. Loved them. One was a 7 day, the other a 5 day. Both with Carnival. Good music, dancing .... We’ve booked a 6 day New Years cruise with Royal Caribbean this year (anniversary 12/27) . Excited. Recommend it. Plan on doing it next year too. Great way to ring in the new year. Good luck! Look at different sites. We saved $700 booking on a cruising website rather than RCI.

We have not done one before, but this year we have booked on Seabourn's "Stars of Cuba" over The holiday period. I can see that "Yankee47" did not have a positive experience. However, my thinking is that perhaps a cruise line which is aimed at gown-up adults might just provide a better experience. This is probably a truism throughout the year, but more so at holidays. If your budget can manage it, try a smaller ship without all the toys promised by the mass market. In the final analysis, the costs ate not that much different as the more upscale ships are truly all inclusive.

We sailed on Celebrity Equinox Dec 2017 for our 20th anniversary and to ring in 2018. We had a great time! They bumped us up to higher level concierge cabin, mid-ship on a great floor. We didn't experience many drunks at all and it was really fun to be on the pool deck with the captain and crew when the New Year came; they poured champagne if you wanted it but it felt like the crew had a handle on serving people appropriately. Crew were aware of our anniversary and acknowledged us accordingly, which was nice. Not much extra special outside of a delicious celebratory cake but we are really low maintenance so we appreciated the treat. We wanted to do something memorable in celebration of this milestone and we accomplished this goal. We just booked a cruise on Celebrity Edge for this year's celebration :)

We've considered it in the past, but ended up sailing a week later, for the same duration, on the same ship, in the same room class, for 1/5th the price

We did it years ago....almost the same reasoning...I think it was our 5th or 6th cruise. Never again...perks? yeh, it cost more...and if you think folks who don't drink decide to drink on a "normal cruise", you ain't seen nothing compared to New Years...Mardi Gras is up there too..."young uns" who shouldn't be allowed out after dark stoned out of their minds cuz they aren't driving anyplace..and there you are...impossible to get near a bar, and I don't care how many the ship you choose has...we cruised with NCL...and we have cruised with them many many times since...on a variety of different class ships... If you DO decide to do it, reserve your cabin EARLY...like a year b4 if you can, and the same goes for getting to the port, including a motel the day b4. good luck...
