Sun Princess Begins Maiden Voyage
Here comes the sun! Princess Cruises’ highly-anticipated new ship Sun Princess has officially started operations. Following a series of delays, the vessel departed today on its maiden voyage from Rome to Barcelona.
Sun Princess was originally slated to begin sailing on February 8, 2024, however, Princess Cruises and shipbuilder Fincantieri mutually agreed to delay the start due to additional work needed to the vessel at the shipyard. On February 14, the cruise line announced that it had officially taken delivery of Sun Princess from Fincantieri, but it would be canceling a scheduled February 18 voyage on the ship, moving its first voyage to February 28, 2024.
Today, Sun Princess officially departed Rome, on a 10-night cruise visiting ports in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Spain. Princess Cruises shared the following video on their official Facebook page to welcome Sun Princess to its fleet:
“This is an historic day as our new Sun Princess sets sail on her inaugural voyage, and our guests get to experience our sensational, next-level, Love Boat firsthand,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “The ship is a magnificent showcase of advanced design, technology and craftsmanship, with elevated spaces and experiences all focused on taking the Princess vacation experience to a new level.”
