Princess Cruises Unveils Outdoor Family Activity Zone Coming to Sun Princess
Princess Cruises has announced new details about the exciting new family activity zone coming to the new ship, Sun Princess. The Sphere Class vessel is slated to make its official debut in February 2024.
The activity area, named Park19, is to be located on the top decks of Sun Princess (decks 19, 20, and 21). The outdoor space will feature nine family-friendly activities, perfect for guests of all ages.
“Park19 as the name suggests is a new space created for all our guests, including activities to bring together multi-generational travel families in a location with spectacular views and fun outdoor activities for all,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “The new area was tailored based on guest feedback for more family and group activities spaces.”
Following is a look at the exciting new activities coming to Park19 on Sun Princess.
Sea Breeze – Sea Breeze is the first Rollglider on a cruise ship. The activities’ design was inspired by hang gliding, with a cruise-safe version that will take guests high above the ship and surrounding areas to enjoy panoramic views. Using an overhead track, guests will be seated and harnessed to the electric ride, which reaches speeds of up to 11 mph in 60- to 90 seconds. The experience is also ADA-accessible.
Coastal Climb – Coastal Climb is a structure spanning from decks 19 to 20 through a series of climbing obstacles. Once at the top, guests can take in the views then slide back down to the bottom.
The Lookout – At the top of the climbing structure, adventurous guests can visit The Lookout, an open-air observation deck. This space offers 360º views and is the highest point available to guests on Sun Princess.
Splash Zone – Perfect for families traveling with younger sailors, the Splash Zone is a whimsical splash area with pop jets and a beautiful water sculpture.
Recreational Court – The Recreational Court will have ping pong, shuffleboard, Xponential Fitness classes, as well as a rotation of sports and wellness options.
The Net – Located above deck 19, The Net challenges guests to trek across a series of unstable bridges, a z-shaped balance beam, and climb cargo nets.
Jogging Track – The Sun Princess Jogging Track is an open-air track area for walking, jogging, and running. 6.7 times around the track will equal one mile.
Infinite Horizon – The Infinite Horizon is a series of leaning tilt walls cantilevered over the side of the ship. Guests can peer out from deck 19 and look down to decks nine and beyond.
Hammock Area – For those looking for a bit more of a relaxing outdoor venue, the Hammock Area is for you. This is the first space of its kind for Princess Cruises, offering an area complete with relaxing outdoor hammocks.
Kids & Teens Spaces on Sun Princess
Off Deck19, Sun Princess will offer its Youth & Teen Centers on decks six and seven. These centers will cater to guests ages six months to 17 years. Programming at these kids and teen areas is complimentary.
Firefly Park is for the youngest cruisers, ages six months to seven years old. The space will offer a family center for kids and parents to play together, as well as a drop-off program of art projects, theme parties, and group games. After-hours group babysitting will be available from 10 pm – 1 am for $5/hour, for guests ages three - 12.
Older kids can head to Neon Grove (for tweens) and The Underground (for teens). These two separate areas offer an inviting space for tweens and teens to hang out, socialize, or participate in group activities like ship scavenger hunts, movie nights, friendly competitions, and dance parties. The colorful areas will have comfy sofas and chairs for lounging, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles.
2024 Ship Launch
Sun Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. When complete, the 175,500-ton vessel will accommodate up to 4,300 guests with an array of new dining, entertainment, and activity offerings, and luxurious staterooms and suites.
