Princess Cruises to Debut Second Sphere Class Ship in 2025

Princess Cruises has announced that its second Sphere class ship will be named ‘Star Princess’. The new ship is slated to make its official debut in August 2025, with an inaugural season in the Mediterranean. 

Star Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The ship will be 175,500 tons with the capacity to carry 4,300 guests. It joins sister ship Sun Princess as one of the largest ships to date for Princess. 

When complete, Star Princess will be 20 percent larger than any of the line’s existing ships. Star Princess is being built on a platform that is distinctly different and unique from other ships. The vessel will be the second in the Princess fleet to be powered by LNG fuel technology and is being built with a number of advanced sustainable innovations. 

Following are some of the highlights guests will find on Star Princess: 

• Like Sun Princess, Star Princess will include new space ‘The Dome’. This transformational entertainment venue was inspired by the terraces of Santorini. 
• A next-level Piazza space featuring a glass sphere.
• The Princess Arena is the ship’s technologically-advanced main theater. It will be a configurable space, allowing Princess to produce a variety of innovative entertainment concepts.
• A majestic main dining room, positioned aft of the ship with spectacular wake views.
• Expanded stateroom options, including the new Reserve and Signature collections. 
• Other highlights new food and beverage concepts, an expanded casino, a two-story Lotus Spa, and entertainment headlined by Cirque Éloize.

Star Princess will sail its maiden voyage on August 4, 2025, with a nine-day inaugural Italy & Greece roundtrip voyage from Rome. Its summer 2025 season will include a variety of 9- and 10-day Mediterranean cruises sailing from Rome, Athens, or Venice. 

Bookings on Star Princess will go on sale starting June 1, 2023. More ship details and highlights will be released at a later date.
