Princess Cruises unveiled details on its next generation of ships. The new Sun Princess will be the first of the line’s Sphere class of vessels and Princess Cruises’ largest ship to date.

Sun Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard and is scheduled to make its debut in early 2024. When complete, the 175,500-ton vessel will accommodate up to 4,000 guests. Sun Princess will feature 21 decks, with more outdoor balcony space than any other ship. The ship is part of parent company Carnival Corporation’s green cruising focus and is one of 11 new ships to be powered by LNG fuel technology.

Princess Cruises’ fans will recognize this new vessel’s name. This is the third ship to be honored with the name of Sun Princess, with the first ship sailing from 1974-1988 and the second sailing from 1995-2020.

Ship Design & Featured Onboard Spaces

Sun Princess will be designed unlike any Princess ship before, with expansive venues, multi-story dining rooms, and next-level staterooms. According to the line, the design will remain “true to the smooth clean lines and design aesthetics inspired by the Seawitch icon and popularized in the original ‘Love Boat’ TV series and returning the venerable Sun Princess name back into operation.”

Two newly-announced highlighted structures will be featured on Sun Princess: a Piazza area and The Dome.

The Piazza (a highlighted space of the new Sphere class), will span three stories, forming an iconic architectural feature offering guests an outward-looking suspended space with seating and areas to enjoy the ocean views. In the center of the area is an LED screen that can be moved and configured to deliver live entertainment programming.

The Dome is another new standout section of Sun Princess. This space will boast a multi-level covered deck and a glass-enclosed dome, the first to be constructed on a cruise ship. During the day, the Dome will offer an indoor/outdoor pool. At night, the pool becomes a stage, and the Dome transforms into an entertainment venue.

Sun Princess is a new and bespoke ship platform, designed to simultaneously embrace Princess heritage while boldly pressing into the future with iconic, elegant and pure lines unique to our brand,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “A show-stopping, first-of-its-kind Dome on the top deck and suspended glass Piazza in the center of Sun Princess offer innovative designs showcasing expansive ocean views for incredible opportunities to connect with the sea.”

Spacious Accommodations

In total, Sun Princess will offer 2,157 staterooms, including 50 suites and 100 connecting rooms. All balcony cabins will include an in-room sofa.

Announced for exclusive launch on Sun Princess is a new level of suite accommodations, called the ‘Signature Collection’. These new suites include access to a dedicated Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge, and a Signature Sun Deck.

Club Class accommodations onboard Sun Princess (and all Princess ships) will now be called the ‘Reserve Collection’. This space is comprised of the best-located mini-suite staterooms. Newly offered in this choice of cabins, will be ‘Reserve Collection Cabana Rooms’ that include a balcony and private cabana, an extra-large outdoor lounge space, and access to the Reserve Collection Restaurant.

Ship Launch

Sun Princess will sail its inaugural season in the Mediterranean for the spring and summer of 2024. In the fall, the ship will reposition to Port Everglades for Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages.

More details about Sun Princess and bookings will be shared by Princess Cruises in the months to come. Princess has announced that a second Sphere class ship is also on order, and is slated to be delivered by Fincantieri in spring 2025.
