Celebrity Apex Kicks Off Inaugural Caribbean Season

Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship Celebrity Apex has officially begun its long-awaited inaugural Caribbean season. On November 2, the line hosted an official naming ceremony for the ship prior to its first sailing from Port Everglades. The festivities were led by Celebrity Apex Godmother, Reshma Saujani, founder of groundbreaking non-profit Girls Who Code and author of bestseller Brave, Not Perfect.

The launch of Celebrity Apex was originally slated for late March 2020, and was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ship had a short run of Greek Island sailings this past summer, and has since sailed to its new homeport in Florida where it will offer rotating Western and Eastern Caribbean itineraries. 

"Celebrating Celebrity Apex is certainly long overdue and it's a day I have been waiting to celebrate for quite a long time - 581 days, to be exact. This stunning ship truly represents a new standard in new-luxury travel, and we can't wait for our guests to finally experience it for themselves," said Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.

Reshma Saujani follows Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, the first Edge Series Godmother, who served as the Godmother for Celebrity Edge and is renowned for her advocacy of educational opportunities for girls everywhere. Saujani also represents women breaking ground, having led the charge to provide opportunities for women in the traditionally male-dominated tech field.

Celebrity Apex is the sister ship to the award-winning Celebrity Edge. On Apex, guests will find a number of innovative amenities including: 

• The exclusive, ship-within-a-ship ‘Retreat’ area offers suite accommodations, private restaurant, an exclusive lounge and sundeck, and a dedicated team of Personal Retreat Hosts. 
• A variety of accommodations, from modern two-story villas with plunge pools to staterooms with infinite verandas.
• A Magic Carpet soaring cantilevered above the sea and offering guests uninterrupted vistas.
• A curated collection of 29 culinary venues, including the brand-new Craft Social Bar featuring 40 handcrafted boutique beer selections.

• First-at-sea F45 classes, along with Peloton bikes, and "Women in Wellness" onboard content. 

Additionally in honor of Godmother Saujani's work, Celebrity Cruises will offer fun, interactive beginning coding activities from the Girls Who Code curriculum as part of the cruise line's onboard Camp at Sea program.
