When is Nieuw Amsterdam slated to resume operations?
Summer 2021 Alaska voyages on the Nieuw Amsterdam will mark Holland America Line’s official return cruising. These sailings begin July 24, 2021, and will run through September. All cruises will go roundtrip from Seattle and include port stops in Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Sitka, Ketchikan, as well as cruising in scenic Stevens Passage and Glacier Bay.
Holland America Line will require all guests to have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and have proof of vaccination. All passengers must also submit an electronic health questionnaire prior to sailing.

About the Ship: Nieuw Amsterdam is one of Holland America’s larger-sized ships. The vessel last went through a refurbishment in 2017. At full capacity (prior to COVID-19 restrictions) the ship can accommodate up to 2,106 passengers and has 1,053 total cabins. The second of Holland America's signature-class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam celebrates historic New York City, once called ‘Nieuw Amsterdam’.
Activities + Entertainment: Guests sailing on Nieuw Amsterdam will find a number of entertainment, activities, and relaxation venues onboard. Highlights include an art gallery collection valued at more than 3 million dollars, kids and teen clubs, two pools, a shopping arcade, as well as a spa and fitness center.
Night-time venues include a casino, the Northern Lights nightclub, a screening room, the B.B. King’s Blues Club, six bars, and the Crows Next cocktail lounge. The Showroom at Sea theater features daily performances from talented vocalists, dancers, illusionists, comedians and variety acts.
Dining: Nieuw Amsterdam is home to a variety of dining options. The Lido Restaurant features a casual buffet with a variety of food options. The Manhattan Dining Room features five-course menus and an extensive wine selection. At the Terrace Grill, enjoy tasty snacks and fare al fresco on the deck. At Explorations Cafe, guests can enjoy coffee, pastries, and a morning newspaper. For those looking for a specialty dining experience, Canaletto serves fine Italian fare and the Pinnacle Grill serves a special menu inspired by the flavors of the Pacific Northwest.
Pricing: Sailings are filling up quickly with Holland America Line’s return to Alaska this summer, and prices are changing daily. Right now you can expect to pay about $170 per person per night for entry-level accommodations. Consider booking a balcony cabin, so you can enjoy the spectacular views from your own private oasis. These rooms on Nieuw Amsterdam currently start around $220 per person per night and go up from there based on location and category.

What to Expect at Embarkation:
Holland America is currently in the process of finalizing all of its COVID-19 requirements for passengers. The line will require each adult guest to complete a Health Questionnaire, accept their Cruise Contract, and accept a COVID-19 Risk Acceptance document.
Prior to getting onboard, you can expect additional testing requirements, as well as new enhanced protocols like luggage sanitization.
