Norwegian Getaway

October 2015 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Lots of differences with Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Not pleasant differences!

First, the ship was beautiful. The room stewards were very friendly, although on deck 11 we didn't get chocolates.  My sister on deck 5 and niece on deck 12 both got chocolates.  Just a difference.

We didn't see ANYWHERE on the web site regarding the wine corkage fees for wine brought on board, before the cruise.  On Carnival, it is very easy to find.  They charge $15 per bottle corkage fee no matter what.  Not a big deal, we left it with them and they delivered it on the last day, like alcohol purchased on board. Details not readily available on line from the cruise line.

We purchased the unlimited beverage package.  Each drink is signed for and gratuity is added.  The gratuity is charged at the end of the cruise.  We spent about $75 on just drink gratuities.

The three dining rooms, Taste, Savoy and the Tropicana we used multiple times, for dinner and for breakfast.  Taste and Savoy were our favorites, because you could hear yourself think.  The food in any of the free dining rooms were uneventful, boring and tasteless for the most part.  The desserts were not good at all.  The food was consistently cold, and the portions were small.

My husband has consistently used his waterproof action camera to photograph action shots down the slides on multiple Carnival cruises.  He wasn't allowed  to use it on the Getaway.

Tropicana was loud and noisy with the amount of people and the entertainment.  We only ate there once, and the service there was just plain lousy.  We waited 15 minutes to have our order taken, and then another 10 to get our drink order put in.  They missed bringing several items to several in our party, but they did finally cater to the little on in the group (2 year old)  The rest of us suffered.

Both Taste and Savoy had very attentive  wait staff, and FUN wait staff.  They were always attentive and the drinks were ordered and delivered efficiently.

The adult area has a wonderful large screen tv.  It would have been wonderful if we could have seen the football game on it, but had some nature show or kiddie show on all the time.

Needless to say we won't be cruising on Norwegian again.
