Carnival Vista

January 2019 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Vista

Not What I Expected

Expected much more from Vista but it seems the golden age of cruising is a thing of the past. They publish dress standards for the dining rooms but standards are never enforced. People come in wearing whatever they want no matter how dirty, old, or inappropriate. I imagine that the staff has been told not to say anything as it might upset the passenger. Entertainment is third rate and the main production area on this ship is a design failure. Would be hard pressed to make another cruise with Carnival on this ship.

Very Disappointing

Have cruised this ship prior to pandemic and it was excellent. This time, ship felt worn out and crew did not seem as happy as before. Food in MDR was marginal and returned several items due to poor taste. Limited music onboard to enjoy any dancing. Limited selections on LIdo deck. Still wonder why Carnival does not prohibit SMOKING anywhere on the ship. Could not enjoy casino due to abundance of smokers. Carnival knew when we left Galveston that engine problems would limit speed and thus cause changes in our itinerary. Yet, on Monday they announced a lie that due to a 'TECHNICAL ISSUE' that we would not stopping at Grand Cayman. People were not happy. Slow speed of ship resulted in shorter stays in all ports. We were two hours late arriving back at Galveston and the disembarkation was the worst I have ever experienced. Vacated cabin at 8am and then just stood around ship until 11:45am when we finally left ship. Information to passengers from crew was unacceptable and lacking. This was extremely unacceptable for older people who could not find a seat anywhere except on the floor. It seemed as if this was the first time that the crew had handled any type of disembarkation. Due to our late arrival, several hundred people for the next cruise were already standing in line with their luggage in the sun waiting to check in. Shame, shame on Carnival and the entire crew of the Vista. Will think very carefully about cruising with Carnival ever again.

Best Cruise We Have Had

By far, everything about the cruise on Mariner of the Seas was exceptional. The ship is clean, well managed, and a beautiful picture of decoration. The meals were excellent, well portioned, and tasteful. We ate breakfast, most lunches, and all dinners in the Rhapsody In Blue dining room. Service was excellent. Everyone was very professional and attended to all requests. The meals on this ship were far superior to anything I have every had on any Carnival cruise. The salad buffet in the main dining room at lunch time was excellent. We saw the ice show on Voyager of the Seas previously but the show on this ship is far superior to any other. All of the evening performances in the Savoy Theater were wonderful. We never missed one and came away from each show with joy and happiness from the show team. The promenade is the heart of the ship and really makes this class of ship the most fun to be on. We strolled, shopped, danced, and watched the 70s disco show and had a wonderful time. The sanctuary was wonderful and we used it several times especially the hot tub. Stateroom was excellent, well maintained and the stateroom attendant was excellent. Enjoyed all of the ports of call especially since this is the first time we have been to Falmouth, Jamaica, What a vast improvement from Montego Bay. Am sorry that this ship is leaving Galveston to be permanently repositioned to the China Australia itinerary. I only hope the replacement ship, Navigator of the Seas is as good because for my money, Royal Caribbean is the very best cruise line, has the most inovative ships, and really takes good care of passengers. Can't wait for my next cruise with Royal Caribbean.

Cruise tips

George Town, Grand Cayman

Carnival knew they had a engine problem which reduced cruising speed before we left Galveston. Due to slow speed, we skipped Grand Cayman. People pretty upset with lack of Carnival honesty.

Carnival Vista

Carnival Vista

Do not sail on this ship until it returns from drydock in August to replace faulty motor.

Cozumel, Mexico

This port shows the greatest improvement from any other port. Much money, time, and vision has been incorporated into the port facilities.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Do not know why Carnival continues to visit Montego Bay. The port is very dirty and the waters around the dock are loaded with floating debris. The shopping at the terminal are a joke.

Carnival Vista

Carnival Vista

Do not expect anything but the usual cruise experience

Galveston, Texas

Embarkation was slow because of computer problem...debarkation was the best we have experienced...45 minutes from being called to getting baggage to clearing customrs, to being in car on way home

Mariner of the Seas

Mariner of the Seas

Best Ice Show Ever.....Entertainment exceptional......Outstanding food and selection.....Well maintained ship and very clean......Great interior decorating
