Review summary

Overall it was a great cruise. The Breakaway and its staff, food, and entertainment are all excellent. The only negatives I can say were the high cost of excursions and the overcrowding of the stops in Santorini and Mykonos which detracted from the beauty of the islands.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate at Moderno, Le Bistro, the Noodle Bar, Manhattan Main Dining Room, O'Sheehans, and the Buffet. Every meal was delicious.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Our focus is mainly evening activities. The Burn the Floor and Six shows, Howl at the Moon, 876 Konnect and Rockaway Duo, and Diva Show were all excellent. Loved our evenings onboard!

Ports of call

Santorini, Greece

3 out of 5
I love Santorini and have been there before but you can't enjoy it when there are 4 cruise ships in port and there aren't ways of getting everyone up to thira from the tender dock efficiently. There needs to be a better way than slow cable car lines and donkey trails. Why cant more people be dropped off at thira's ferry port and bussed to various places on the island. Santorini is gorgeous but the logistics of getting up and down from the tender drop off ruin the experience. 😞

Mykonos, Greece

4 out of 5
I've been to Mykonos before and loved the experience. It's beautiful. I didn't enjoy it this time unfortunately. Last time we were in port in the evening. This time we were there in the daytime. It unfortunately made a huge difference. The streets were horribly congested with so many people you could barely move. It was very hard to stop at all to take a photo or look at souvenirs. I really think cruise ships need to look at other islands to stop at as tnykonos and Santorini are getting too many visitors at the same time. There are other islands that are just as nice and less crowded.

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

Valletta, Malta

We did the 3 cities and boar ride and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Malta.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
We enjoyed Sicily a lot. We visited Taormina and thought it was a beautiful town.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Stopping in Naples is wonderful as there are so many options for excursions. We have visited there before and loved Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and Capri. This time we opted to take the ferry, which was right near the ship, and go to the Island of Ischia. We enjoyed our day a lot.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Livorno is also a great stop for excursions like Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and Tuscany. We had been traveling in Italy for a month before the cruise and had already visited the area so we chose to just walk around Livorno. We weren't as impressed with Livorno as other towns we have seen and it started raining so we chose to return to the ship and relax. But i still believe this port deserves 5 stars.
