This is a rare Sydney to San Fran cruise, it is a 25 year old ship, Pacific can be rough, 70% Sea days,, entertainment is limited, if you can come to terms with this, the cruise will be fun….staff was wonderful and made up for other shortcomings….

Amazing Princess Cruisetour to Alaska by acoble07

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess

A little grueling but an amazing trip. We did the land portion first & was glad we did. Didn't see anywhere to comment on the land portion which was great in itself.

Wonderful Alaskan Cruise on Princess with family by cnkgraalum

Ship: Grand Princess

Very smooth sailing! Best buffet layout and service of any cruise line we had experienced. Buffet did not have enough chocolate offerings. Also had more educational lectures we enjoyed

Fun but not nearly as wonderful as expected. Princess has gone downhill by hmmmiwonder

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grand Princess

the biggest complaint is we did not feel special at all; e.g., the room steward didn't do any thing special like "towel animals" or treats on the pillow. at the last dinner, every other cruise we've been on the kitchen/chef come out in a fun parade, that didn't happen. never really got to know the staff at all. also the medallion app is horrible, horrible, horrible. totally unreliable. i hate it and that's enough to never go on princess again. even their own staff says it's horrible. so fix it!

Alaskan Adventure by preis1ke

If you want to explore Alaska, this is the way to do it! This was a trip of a lifetime. We were very fortunate with the weather. Everything you hope to see in Alaska can be seen from this cruise.

Great cruise, with lots of beautiful scenery to see! by calicanuck559

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess

It was great stepping on to the grand Princess in Whittier. I love the first day! As I said above, prepare for rain and fog and cold if you’re going to Alaska. We paid for Princess plus which included Wi-Fi and drink package. The first crew member we interacted with tried to upsell us, but we simply declined. I think they only do that right when you get on board. We really enjoyed the cruise, and would do it again. All in, I recommend this cruise.

Great scenery, abundant food, Princess Cruise quality just a bit off. by tjcosta1230

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess

Great time - Alaska is a beautiful place to visit. We added our own land excursion by renting a car touring at our own pace. We visited Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks. There is NOTHING between these towns - Gas up beforehand.

Absolutely Stunning!!! by stacymkc

This was our first time visiting Alaska and we enjoyed it immensely. We cruised with 2 other couples (both first time cruisers) and had very little complaints. Alaska is indescribable and beautiful beyond measure.

Excellent food, outstanding room service, but Medallion APP sucked. poor logistics on final destination. The Motown Soul Music has no Soul. I didn't see Detroit but Las Vegas instead. dancers on stage with loud music but without soul by SammyYang

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess

I have been on Carnival and Royal Caribbean prior to Princess. I would give a 5-star score on Princess. However, the below 3 items have ruined my experience. 1) Medallion APP - it disconnected from booking database and wiped out on file credit card. Also, due to the network latency and staled webpage, it's not a true-Realtime APP, it created a lot of inconvenience. 2) Logistics - We didn't receive the (Whittier - Anchorage) paper in stateroom. When we approached the service desk, stated the car rental is through AVIS in downtown Anchorage. We even asked if AVIS downtown location is closer to Hospitality Center, the answer was NO. airport is only option. When we arrived in AVIS airport location, no car available. it cost extra money to get AVIS downtown location which is across street from Hospitality Center. 3) Entertainment - The Motown Soul Music has no Soul, I didn't see Detroit but Las Vegas instead. bunch of dancers moving the body on stage with loud music but without soul. needs Improvement on Medallion APP, knowledge training on logistics, entertaining not insulting audiences.

Itinerary Excellent on a tired ship by weingartphillip

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess

We like the character of these older ships with the caveat they are well maintained. That was not the case with leaking water from ceilings, non functional elevators, broken exercise equipment, and dated amenities. The food was occasionally good but mostly not. Nothing special about the specialty dinning.

Nice cruise with some hiccups by frenchieheart

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: South Pacific

This was an Okay cruise. We have not taken a Princess cruise for quite a while and we were not impressed. We mainly went because of the itinerary and then Princess chopped that up as Bora Bora and Pago Pago got dropped which changed the cruise immensely.

Don’t Waste Your Money by redusmail

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: South Pacific

The 29 day cruise was originally going to have two other ports of call. This got changed over time. Too many days at sea with same & more of same things to do. Will not do a long cruise with so many days at sea. Lastly it was our first Princess cruise ( our 29th overall cruise) and this ship and tour is in the bottom 20% of all cruises taken

No more Princess Cruise for us by kchung

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Their port stops are great if you have not experience the west coast. Don't understand why we would have a day at sea between San Diego & LA. It is only 2 hrs drive. We could be a bit biased, because we were comfortable or having that much fun on this ship. We would not cruise again with Princess. That's for sure.

Pleasant at sea, disappointing on land by Tyderium

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The overall rating listed for the cruise is 3.5, but I would rate it as a 3.0 at best. The cruise itself was fine, but the 3-day land portion was, at its very best, disappointing. A domed-sightseeing train trip into Denali was interesting. The narration was informative, but 8 hours of train travel and nearly 8 hours of constant narration was grating. The whole of the Denali experience was that of a lightly-prodded, very comfortable cow. We were transported en masse to a Princess-owned "resort"/jumble of apartments+restaurant, allowed to check-in to the room and go to a lodge or go an excursion, and wake up the next day and do the very same thing. The schedule of Denali transports and Princess-shuttling to the next Princess motel were incompatible, and several of the more interesting excursions were simply not possible. In addition, the Princess lodge was not located near anything that could be accessed WITHOUT a Princess shuttle or excursion package. So, I couldn't actually go into Denali or hike anywhere, which is a tremendous waste of travelling into the Alaskan wilderness, not to mention money and time. A better arrangement of scheduling between the shuttles and the excursion providers would be appreciated. My family agreed that we will certainly return to Alaska, but not through anything resembling a Princess-administrated package. A shame, too, since the cruise was fairly nice and well-organized.
