Would You Like to Travel From New York to Australia Without Going on an Airplane?

I know many passengers don't like to dress up for formal nights but it doesn't bother me. A dressy top takes up the same room in a suitcase as a more casual one does.

I am hoping that you will take such a cruise someday in the future.

That's way too long for me.

We don't have pets or a home/condo. we did it in 2 cruises from Van. BC to HI 12 nights. Stayed in HI 8 months. Then HI to Sydney 18 nights (the best cruise we've ever been on due to all the Aussies onboard.) stayed in Aus. 3 months, staying in the South Pacific for 22 months. Have booked 7 more cruises in the South Pacific. The last April 2017 Sydney to Seattle 24 nights return to North America for a visit.

I agree, this is a too long cruise even for me. I have been twice to Australia and will stop there again next year. The flights were too long for me and almost impossible for my husband. Now we can only go by cruise ship. Glad we flew over when we were younger. I hope that you do get there as it is a wonderful destination including New Zealand which I enjoy even more.

If the question is related more to the points of embark/debarkation I could live without seeing New York harbor again from the water. But I do wonder about living aboard a ship for a third of a year. I lived on a ship for a month as a teenager and loved it but now...? Most of us retirees in the middle classes on "fixed incomes" with that kind of time to travel in one big chunk would find it a pleasurable challenge to vacate the condo, hand over the pets, pack enough of the right stuff to last that long covering climate extremes, seeing the same people over and over again (don't we do that anyway?). Formal nights would get too numerous too quickly. I could only do a trip like that with a totally compatible partner. Could I do it as a solo? Doubtful.

Regarding formal nights...As a 20+ cruise veteran with 5 on Cunard QM2 I know you don't HAVE to dress up on formal nights. Granted there are areas they ask that you don't go to (like the Dining room) but the buffets are good if you want informal.

The good thing about HAL on Grand or World cruises is that you ship your bags ahead of time and the price is included in your fare if you book the whole trip. We had 9 formal nights on our 78 day cruise. I just brought 4 dressy tops and wore them all twice. The 9th formal night we ate In a speciality restaurant.

Dave and I would love to cruise Aus/NZ. We looked at world cruises (similar to the one you mention @glomarrone), segments of world cruises, in addition to repositioning cruises. We put Aus/NZ cruising on the back burner for the time being because the airfare rivals the cruise fare... making it very unattractive as a destination.

A cruise option that includes Aus/NZ is on our radar, but it won't happen until after 2017. Right now, our dance card is full.

sounds like a good cruise to me..... just not sure I would want that long on a ship that is so many formal nights.
