Puerto Rico - 51st US State? - Cuba Travel Suspended? - Impact on Cruise Travel

As Puerto Rico looks at becoming the 51st state of the US (they are currently a US commonwealth) and talks of suspending travel to Cuba are proposed, will these potential changes impact cruises to these destinations?

It will not be an issue for Canada regarding Cuba. We will go there without any issues. If fact, My daughter -in-laws step father lives in Cuba, and we can go there and stay whenever we like.

But as far as cruise ships go and the current U.S. Commander in chief---or the buffoon in charge...

as we like to think about our leaders. The leaders in Canada and the USA will only be there for a while--not 50 years.--yet. I look forward to Cuba..... When the Golf courses get better. And we can cruise for a great price.

PR is a great place to visit, same as any US state withe USD and English spoken in most areas. The people are nice, weather is good, beaches are nice and great food. I have spent a week in PR and would be happy to go back.

Cuba I see no point going to until I can travel freely in the country, not with a guide or on cultural visits. They are still not set up for mass tourism, they don't have the infrastructure for it yet. I'd rather spend my American money in a place Americans are liked.

PR statehood still has to be voted on by our congress. Think about it, if they become a state, they earn the right to vote in Presidential elections, and, get seats in the House & Senate. The last thing Republicans want is more minority voters. They will argue that since only 23% of the people voted in the first place, it's not enough of a majority to grant statehood.

only my opinion

With PR, I can see it actually increasing tourism there when if and when it becomes a state. There will be a lot of people who will want to say they have visited the newest state. Of course there will have to be other non-US destinations on that cruise to keep tax issues in check.

Cuba - I understand there are people who go and our Canadian friends have been free to go there for a while, but, I really do not care about going there, I do not think their infrastructure is ready for another 3k a day times how many ships want to go there. It will be a while before they are actually ready for it.

I still wish to travel to Cuba and hope that Americans will still be able to take cruise there in the future. I want to take a cruise that mainly visits several ports in Cuba not just an overnight in Havana. HAL also stops in Cienfuega but I would like even more stops. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In my opinion, Puerto Rico is not impacted one way or the other because of its current status as a US commonwealth. On the other hand, the Cuba travel seems to be heating up with many opposed to the possibility of limiting if not banning travel to and fro Cuba.
