How Do You Feel About Room Service Charges?

At the end of this month, RCCL will start adding a service charge of $7.95 for food orders delivered to staterooms except for continental Breakfast orders, which will still stay complimentary. The cruise line is joining Carnival & NCL in charging for room service. What are your thoughts?.

I don't get it.

A few days ago it was stated (as well as many other times in many other places) that the "mandatory tipping" should be abolished and if the lines were to just tack it on to the fare all would be good.

RCCL has done that in a way that doesn't affect people who don't use the service -- a mandatory charge for use.

Why is everyone upset? They have to pay the waiters, after all.

(They share the videos...)

Right. Now they know what Balcony Club membership is.

Good

They sure do read CruiseLine, but you will be hard pressed to convince most on that subject. We have family members that live in Miami that work for 2 major CruiseLines and they both confirmed Management does mention CruiseLine and others in their briefings. But i love it when you read "Why are you posting this review the CruiseLines never read anything on this site" OK sure they dont.

Lessons learned. A generous tip one night equals prompt service the next time.

I'm with Ctav on this. I usually get a BLT and chips for a few dollars or just the free food from room service late at night or its grabbing a few slices of pizza. I also like room service for a bagel and coffee with juice in the morning with no charge. I give a 2 dollar tip as well.

Consumer blocks can influence their service providers. A few years back (2014?) Princess tried to institute a $3 surcharge for all stateroom "deliveries." Customer complaints allowed them to change their minds. And yes - cruise lines absolutely monitor sites like cruiseline.com. They'd be foolish not to.

I seldom use room service but when I do its usually a BLT w/chips and a soda. If not that I'm walking up to Lido Deck for pizza and ice cream.

Really, are we ever satisfied when something that was free now cost? It's part of living.

We grit our teeth when the price of a bar of soap goes up, the price of milk, produce, or anything. So why should we post nasty and hateful reviews as if the people who increase cost actually will read them and feel bad?

When Carnival invented the FTTF program, I lost my priority luggage. I called Carnival and complained and then I realized that the person I'm calling has no way of changing it. It was time to move on and get over it.

Right on the spot keywest1!!Wink

Carnival doesn't prohibit taking food back to the cabin--yet.

I get why people aren't happy about this. It's just one of those things that really doesn't matter to me. We don't do a lot of room service, but we do enjoy the breakfast on port mornings.
