Do you go for quantity of cruises or length?

So on one of my creeping through the boards and looking at some old and new topics mood, I notices that there are so many varied opinions and preferences on length of cruise to book.

Now personally, I think that even a 7 day is even too short, but it's my go to length given work and time off that I can take. It gives me the opportunity (if budget also is there) to do 2 cruises a year. I am keeping an eye on some longer cruises, but I only get 2 weeks off in a year.

I'm curious with some folks that have numerous cruises booked in a year and some massive re-positioning to boot that where does the time and money come from?? Of course there is probably a perfectly fine explanation like possibly part time work or retirement, but wouldn't mind hashing out the question of... Do you go for one nice long cruise in one shot, or do you try and go for a few shorter cruises?

I long for the day I can just pick up and take any cruise I desire, but unfortunately a girl has gotta workCrying

Do you put all your eggs in one basket, or do you spread them out?

And GO!

We have done 1 four day, 3 five days, 1 six day, and 1 seven day with another seven day coming up in September. The seven day was perfect for us. Plenty of time to relax and enjoy the ship as well as the ports, but I start getting homesick about day six. I miss the kids and grands, but I also just miss home so I'm not sad about getting off the ship. The four day was too short and was just a different atmosphere--not bad, but a little wilder with a little more rudeness of fellow passengers.

I have only done up to 5 days and it is not enough. I want to work up to a month long cruise.

Addendum to my original post...

Another reason for choosing length over frequency came to mind. We don't have kiddos of our own. We love our nieces and nephews to bits but cruise time is our escape, peace & quiet time. Our experience has been that well-behaved children/young teens are an exception rather than a rule. As a result, we prefer longer voyages (14+ nights) because families with minors more often select shorter trips. That's not to say that we haven't run into obnoxious, drunk adults acting like children on a few trips. Can't seem to get away from that variable. The downside with that on longer journeys is that we are trapped on a ship with the same people and sometimes run into the same drunks a few times.... LOL.

I go by what is within driving distance, port, day of embarkation, ship, and length of cruise.

When we first moved to Florida we jumped at every great deal we could find on a quick getaway and built up our past passenger status on a few cruise lines.

Last year we took our first 14-night cruise but felt it was too long due to our work/home responsibilities. Of course we booked another 14-night cruise-tour for this year so well have to see how that goes…

Our favorite now is probably a seven-night cruise with pre- post- stays in cities we haven’t yet visited for a total of eleven days or so.

So many cruises, so little time! Big Smile

We prefer the longer cruises. I did a 5 day cruise once and I think that would be too short for me now. We usually don't do less than 7.

I feel ya! I have one and a half jobs and my BF is out of work so I get the squeeze. My first 2 cruises were 9 days and they were wonderful! My BF says that the 7 days are barely long enough as well.

Well... my husband and I are still young; mid 20's. Money plays a BIG part in which cruise we go on. The fact that we just got to take a cruise in Jan 2016 and we're booked again for Feb 2017 is huge for us. Cruises are cheaper so that's a main reason we go on them. He has a normal job, pays normal money and I'm a student. Money is tight. That said we're not about to go on any cruise ship unless it's shiny new or at least very very impressive, esp now that we've been on the NCL Escape; few compares. We look for price then ship, then where it's going. Our go to is 7 or 8 days but it's never long enough. By day 4 I'm freaking out that half the vacation is over and I cant relax anymore. Day 5 and 6 are sad. If I had a 10 day or a 12 day I think that would be best for me. We went to Sandals for our honeymoon and that was a 10 day vacation, absolutely perfect. 10 days is short enough that work doesnt yell at you but long enough that it almost feels like 2 weeks. Hopefully our 2018 vacation will be 10-12 days. Fingers crossed.

After giving over thirty years of my life to my employer, they have agreed to pay me a healthy annuity between them, social security and investments. I will probably get a job doing something, but it would be more for entertainment than money. Then again, I may just camp out on my couch drinking beersBig Smile

I've still got about three years to worry about it, though.

Or get paid to cruise!
