Very educated and polite local population
We ran aground at about 4:30AM and were awakened by the emergency alarms. Luckily the river bottom was soft mud and our hull was not damaged. The ship was lightened by transferring fluids aft and draining some tanks and the main swimming pool. After many hours of roaring the engines full blast we at last freed ourselves without need of a tug
Very poorly planned tender port. Local river traffic at the single dock meant our tenders were delayed big time and at times passengers had to jump/hop from boat to boat when our tenders were lashed up side by side due to the single boat docking. I witnessed one poor soul fall because of this

very nice place to just walk around town and short trip excursions to the penguins and war memorial/battle fields
end of cruise port you will need transportation to Santiago de Chile
Best shore excursion of the trip we went to a chilean rodeo with amazing Muti al a cart and sit down dinner provide, best excursion of the trip
Long multi hour ride excursions are needed to get to the natural reserves (sea lions and penguins ) , for us the long hard dusty rides are not worth it but to each his own we did one of these long trip excursions

Cold hard land surrounded by Alpine mountains with great terra del Fuego park excursions
Best walk off the ship cruise port , you disembark right at the small memorial park/monument to the German Cruiser Admiral Graff Spee lost in the 1939 battle of the Rio de La Plata and continue on no vehicles allowed walking streets that take you right through old town, plenty of beautiful parks, historic sights and no pressure stores and vendors along the way.
We stayed in Buenos Aires for a week before the cruise with local friends and relatives and as always enjoyed the "Paris of South America" immensely, plenty to do with friendly residents always willing to try for you.
Punta Del Este is just a summer get away resident city for the wealthy from Buenos Aires and very nice but you will find nothing but a long walk if you do not purchase a shore excursion
