Review summary

We really enjoyed the cruise, even though the length was longer than any other we have done. The staff were all very responsive, friendly and competent. The food in all the locations was excellent. We like Holland America because it is mostly older people who are often very interesting and not LOUD!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Easy embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We went to the Pinnacle, the Cannoleta and the Lido and all were terrific! The food, staff and service was excellent! We went to the Crow's Nest bar every night for an after dinner drink.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We used the thermal pool several times and found the staff to be friendly and helpful

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We enjoyed both comedians, but did not find the singing and dancing shows of high enough quality to enjoy.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the services we received were excellent. The front office, the room stewards and the waiters were all excellent. Our room stewards called us by name every day! So did the bartender in the Crow's Nest (Conrad)

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was always clean. It was our first time on the Zaandam, but we had no trouble navigating the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was a little larger than a stateroom, but had more storage than we actually needed. The combination of the drawers in the desk and the closet space accomidated all our clothes and shoes. I also appreciated the shelf under the sink in the bathroom for toiletries, along with the cabinet on the wall. I wish there was more than one plug in the cabin (I couldn't find any others besides the hair dryer plug in the bath). I have started bringing a multiple plug so that I can charge more than one thing at a time. I also recommend a night light in the bathroom so you don't blind yourself in the middle of the night, turning on the flourescent lights. Finally, I would appreciate an LED clock in the suite, so if you awaken in the middle of the night, you know whether to get up or go back to bed.

Ship tip

It's a smaller ship, so there is a greater chance of seeing the same people often, and getting to know them better.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We asked for expedited disembarkation and got off very quickly and easily.
