Review summary

I. Would definitely recommend this cruise to others. There was a great mixture of interesting ports plus an equal number of relaxing sea days. Our Vista suite was a first class accommodation; having our own small private balcony was a luxury we will never again forego. We purchased 15 Holland America shore excursions and feel 14 of them were worth every penny. (Not "Scenes of LaSerena and Elqui Valley.")

The staff, without exception, was excellent. The food was great; we preferred eating in the dining room as opposed to the more informal buffet line.

This was a nice, quiet suite very close to stairs and elevators. I would happily choose it again. Having your own private balcony was a luxury we'd never again forego.

Ship tip

Be aware....to get to deck 5 dining room stay on deck 5 from forward or midshipmen. Otherwise, there's a block which makes you go up and down extra stairs.

Ports of call

Montevideo, Uruguay

Everywhere takes American dollars, no need to exchange money.

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

The 4x4 land rover ride was VERY rough to get to the penguin. My 80 year old back didn't enjoy it. However, once to the penguin colonies and the homemade treats....well, I'd do it again.

Punta Arenas, Chile

Interesting town, no very poor section, no beggars. All hard working people.

Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina

Puerto Montt, Chile

Don't miss Petrohue Falls.

Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile

Wear comfy shoes! Whole city is built on steep hills.
