Ship: Wonder of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

Lots of things to do on the ship! We didn’t like the smoke coming out of the 4th floor casino into the dining area. Eat on the 3rd or 5th floor of the dining area if you can’t stand the smoke.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy and fast process. We took our pictures for Seapass in advance and saved several minutes. Staggered embarkation helps immensely compared to our last Oasis class trip in 2018.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We requested traditional time at 5pm but found out it was full. We were on MyTime dinner which turned out better for us. We can eat at any time. Food was not spectacular but decent. Lobster tail dinner was on the 6th day but only limited to one tail. My son ordered curry entrees four our of the svene days during dinner even though he’s not of South Asian decent. Windjammer had a lot of selection. We didn’t try any speciality restaurant except the complimentary coupon for Johnny Rocket. The pizzas at Sorrentos were the ‘best’ according to my kids. But they said you must eat it hot or else it’s mediocre. Kids ate ice cream everyday at Sprinkles!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Lots of things to do with our family of four. The water slides were slow! But after we took off our rash guards, it was fast. The Abyss dry slide was ok. My wife tried the zip line three times at night! Mini golf was great for the kids! We played laser tag three times in a day! The wait times were long (about 45-60 minutes) even with reservations. It was a sea time and it was raining so most were inside. Ice skating was good but on the smaller side. Rock climbing was fun and challenging for the kids. We tried ping pong several times. I went to the fitness center twice in the morning to burn off some calories from all the eating!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We pre-booked all the events when it opened 45 days before sailing. We liked Voices the best and Tap Factory the least. My wife wished there was a Broadway show. The Karaoke family nights were fun and my kids were going to sing but didn’t have any recent songs. They had mostly oldies like Sweet Caroline!

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
We tried Adventure Ocean twice for an hour each day. My older son just ended up playing video games and my daughter did some arts and crafts. We pulled them out and decided to spend the trip as a family. We didn’t want to put them in ‘daycare’. They didn’t really like the environment.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Everyone was friendly but I found you don’t really get to know the waiters for MyTime dining compared to Traditional. It’s understandable since you get a new waiter each night. The room steward seemed to be overworked as he missed making the pull out bed in the first.” Night. We had to ask three times for an extra blanket. And also asked him to fill the shampoo dispenser after the 2nd night as it was low. Tip: Ask for a bottle of conditioner!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It was the clean with hand washing stations at Windjammer and Park Cafe. Hand sanitizers were everywhere. We didn’t get sick. Mask wearing was almost non-existent. We felt safe!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We stayed at Park Central balcony on the 12th floor. The sound proofing helped deaden the music from the pool area above us. The shower pressure was awesome! We used the balcony chairs to dry our clothes! The TV has Chromecast so we streamed some Disney shows from my phone with our Voom internet account. It uses Starlink. Beds were comfy! We used magnetic hooks to hand stuff!

Ship tip

This is our second time sailing on an Oasis class ship. The first time was wow! The ship is huge! The second time was underwhelming since it’s very similar.

Ports of call

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Our young kids are on the shorter side so we opted out of the paid water slides. The free area for the kids were sufficient. We did some snorkeling at Chill Island and saw a manta ray. Then headed over to Harbour Beach, Splashaway Bay and finally the fresh water, Oasis Lagoon. Loud music was playing and we felt we were in a rap video with guys and girls dancing with drinks in hand! The complimentary buffet was filling but watch out for the pesky birds. They dove and grabbed my son’s food!

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
We went to Kennedy Space Center the day before!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
We didn’t book any excursions and ended up walking through the city. We’re not shoppers so it was ok. We went back to the ship after a couple of hours. Why are the the watch and jewelry owners mostly South Asian decent?

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
We walked to the beach from the ship and had a beach day for the kids. We rented chairs and umbrella for $30 which includes 5 juice/pop and slow Wi-Fi. We don’t drink alcohol. In the end, we ended up with 4 drinks. I didn’t bother arguing for the 5th drink. They also provide sand toys for the kids to use. We took the boat ferry back for $5 pp.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Similar to embarkation, it was fast, orderly process to leave the ship.
