Review summary

The Royal Caribbean app seems to have some quirks to it. Mainly it is a good app and I do like the feature of being able to manipulate the AC, TV, lights, and curtains in our stateroom. One oddity - pressing the increase temp button for the AC shouldn't turn the living room TV on. Hmm.... Also, in trying to review the restaurant menu at Izumi, all it shows are kids appetizers and entrées. Great ship, very comfortable and relaxing with lots to do.

Embarkation

Embarkation was a breeze. From the time we walked into the building to getting on the ship took only about 10 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dined mainly at the Coastal Kitchen. The food was good but the service was sometimes challenged from not receiving some items ordered or waiter trying to give us the wrong orders. Izumi, as always, had good food.

Chef's Table

4 out of 5

The food and wine pairings were remarkable. The service was fantastic. The only time I could get for this was 800 pm. I should have known better. We did not finish until 1100 pm. By that time we were ready to go to bed.I will remember that next time.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was fantastic. The comedy show had me laughing hysterically. Voices was the best. I'd almost think they were lip syncing because it was perfect. I've been to some RC shows on other ships with terrible singing. Voices was amazing. Tap Factory was very entertaining. Great drum solos, some silent comedy, and impressive tap dancing. Great show. InTENse was ok. It dragged out and became more of a "when is this going to be over?"

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Unfortunately, one or two bad apples can bring a score down significantly. One evening we were walking around and saw that the InTENse show was about 30 min from starting. We did not have a reservation but as Suite members we have a reserved area. We went to the standby line (only had 3 people or so there) and asked the attendant there about our options. He told us to go wait in the long line for main entry and we would be scanned in. When we got to the front of the line, the attendant there was as disrespectful and rude as anyone I have experienced on a cruise ship. Her look of contempt and annoyance with our questions and the fact that she wanted to get back to her personal conversation with her workmate was telling as to her priorities. She said we had to have a reservation and that we couldn't come in as it was sold out and to go stand in the stby line. We asked about the Suite guests area and she said we do not have priority. So - we went to the stby line. My sister sister-in-law got on the RC app and was able to make 4 reservations for that very show! We went back over to this rude attendant and said we now have a reservation. Her response was "that's impossible, this show is sold out." Now that is an implication that we were lying. Nothing makes me more angry than such an accusation. We had to show her our reservation just made. She rolled her eyes and acted like we were an extreme annoyance but scanned us in with a huff. Ok then.... The next day we had a meeting with Customer Service management in the back office and she was very concerned with the treatment received. She confirmed that, as Suite guests, we WERE entitled to those benefits since we paid to have some of those benefits. I'm not asking for special treatment but I do expect to receive the benefits for which I paid. And NO ONE on that ship should be treated in such a way by service staff. We are not an annoyance, we are their customers. We had already made another week long reservation the next year in a suite that we were going to cancel because of this. Royal Caribbean did come through and said that they knew who this individual was (multiple complaints) and they promised she would be dealt with to include reminding the entire staff that customers should be provided information rather than an attitude and the particular benefits included with different bookings. We were provided a significant discount on the next booking, which unfortunately I can't apply to the booking I had already made the next year. That's convenient. Long story longer - having said all this, the MAJORITY of the staff on that ship were very pleasant, well mannered, and helpful.
