This was the best of 4 cruises we have been on, and we will never again go back to the big ships. Service was outstanding, there were no lines ever for food, and it was nice having just adults around without kids underfoot.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
This was the smoothest embarkation of any cruise ship ever. Nicely done, and no standing in lines for ever and a day.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
A+ for food effort and overall A- on food delivery. There's only a few nitpick things they haven't quite got the hang of, like clear fresh iced tea, and french fries not more than one inch long, but overall this was the best food we have ever had across 4 cruise lines. Service was A++ - stewards and attendants were almost telepathic. They were on it before you could even form the worlds on your lips in most cases.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The crew talent show night was fabulous and surprisingly good. Search Youtube under "Chicago Blues Windstar" if you want an example to see what I mean. This is a "quiet" and respectful cruise ship without kids running around, and it was heavenly. If you need thumpa-thumpa dance music and laser light shows, this is not the cruise line for you.

Service and Staff

Supernaturally good service staff. Best I have ever seen
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Spotless ship
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Wonderful cabin, with wonderful cabin attendant - but NOISY when out at sea with engines running. The most expensive cabin on the ship is unfortunately near the engines, so bring earplugs and sleeping pills.
Ship tip
Bring several books to read. This is the cruise for it.
It's all about the boat and the service. Where the boat happens to park itself is almost incidental, especially in the the Caribbean where the ports are pretty much all the same, regardless of country.

This IS the place to buy emeralds though, if you ever thought you wanted the chance to get good quality.
Was stationed here in 1984, and there were rats running in the streets. The rats were still there, and it hasn't changed much. Don't take this cruise because you want to see Colon, just think of it as a place to pass through on your way to the airport.
Now you know what some of us know windstar is the best of the best we have cruise on their sailing yachts done 1983, our next one is march 31st aboard the windsurf
My first cruise was on the Wind Star 25 years ago and it was just like you discribe it. Good to know they keep on with the quality and excellent job for the passengers. Hope yo go on it again.
