Worst Holiday Experience Ever by Markbr55

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

Just come back from a cruise on Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas.

This was not my first cruise with Royal Caribbean but it was the worst holiday experience of my 56 years.

The company has definitely reduced the quality of its product to the point where this now resembles a floating stag party complete with nightly rugby songs, disgusting food served on plastic plates and de-salinated water served in plastic glasses.

Service was third rate and complaints got heated all around us in the restaurants, by the pools at customer service................

Everything was a rip off, drinks, excursions, water, service charges, TV, internet, next cruise purchases, shops........... It took some considerable skill to navigate all the Royal Caribbean scams.

On three of our stops we queued for hours to get on and off the ship because of Royal Caribbean incompetence and then instead of saying sorry Royal Caribbean blamed the Australian Authorities.

I have never been on a cruise where guests we so anti the operator. I honestly thought there was going to be a riot at one stage because the food was so bad and Royal Caribbean just kept apologising and giving out worthless cruise vouchers but did nothing about the problems.

On the first day, Royal Caribbean messed up the loading of cases and in some instances it took 12 hours to match guest with case. Customer Services just spouted lie after lie to try to appease the angry mob. Most guests had to go to Level 1 to retrieve their own cases. Many of the cases had been opened by Royal Caribbean and items taken out such as alcohol without the owner present.

I saw a couple of guys on Level 1 who were ready to kick off because of the lies and deceit shown by the crew.

I wrote to Royal Caribbean and pointed out at least 10 instances of breach and I got a letter back telling me to refer my complaint to arbitration which I've now done.

This is a dishonest, disreputable bunch of sharks who take your money and then give you nothing but broken promises in return and when you complain you get the "Royal" finger. There are some lovely cruise companies out there Royal Caribbean isn't one of them.

Great ship and wonderful port of call by McBee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

The Voyager of the Seas is a beautiful ship as it was refurbished in 2014.  We had an inside cabin on the 9th floor.  The room was very spacious and had an abundance of storage areas.  The bathroom is small, which is normal.  The food was good and there was a large selection in the Windjammer Cafe.

We really enjoyed the ports of call.  We took an excursion tour at each port (Sanya China, Viet Nam and both days in Thailand).  The tours were well run and interesting.  Very nice cruise!

Average itinerary and Cruise. Still reccomended by skuds

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

Our itinerary left from Hong Kong (Wonderful City) to Sanya, China then to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Bangkok, Thailand and finally to Singapore.  As we docked in Sanya, we were greeted by Chinese Soldiers dressed in Riot gear - A show of force that was certainly unnecessary to protect a town with very little to offer.

Saigon was a very interesting city with a fascinating culture and interesting temples.  Since automobiles have a 200% duty on them which increases the price beyond the affordability of most natives, one will marvel at the sheer number of scooters that travel the streets with overloaded contents.  Families of 5 persons or 5-foot (1.7 meter) stacks of goods are not unusual to find on one scooter.

Bangkok was an incredible city with intricate temples that awed the senses.  Nightlife was reported to be fantastic but it is the architecture that will change one's perception of the area.

Being only 1 degree above the equator, Singapore suffers from a hot climate and no wind.  None-the-less, it is a clean modern city with excellent transportation and the world's highest-rated airport.  Most places are air-conditioned and very friendly.

Voyager of the Seas is a good ship for about a 7-night cruise.  Any longer and the ship starts to get very small.  I recommend the Promenade Cafe for great sandwiches and wonderful pizza.  It was a welcome find after enduring the crowds at the Windjammer cafe on a daily basis.

My worse experience ever by ecarpio

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

I have travelled on this ship, Voyager of the Sea, 11 years ago. The facilities on the ship is fine. Embarkment from Hong Kong was horrendous . Took almost 4 hours before boarding the ship. Very disorganized Embarkment. Due to typhoon, we only get to go to only Taiwan and was at sea for 2.5 days.

Terrible experience by curtisballantyn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

The ship is fine. We have travelled on the same ship 11 years ago and that's why we return. However, from Embarkment in Hong Kong to the end of the cruise, the crowds were unbearable. The embarkment took 3.5 hours and every time you dine, there were long lines getting into the dining area. Good luck finding seats in the dining area as the people did not tend to leave even after they finished eating. The asian passengers, mainly Chinese nationals were loud and impolite. 5 days cruise with only 1 port of call due to typhoon. The whole experience was bad.

A restful and enjoyable cruise by fredakpcheung

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

Going on a cruise is one of the better ways for a family reunion activity as there is adequate space, variety of program and entertainment for the different ages. It saves a lot of headache to accommodate the wants and needs of the family members. It allows time for personal and family activities. The Royal Caribbean Cruise provides programs that will meet the needs of the different age groups.

The ship was a sister twin to the Navigator of the Seas that floats around the Caribbean. Ready for renovation this October it is kept in very very clean shape. Staff, food and all cruise items well done.
