Review summary

A relatively relaxing time on our cruise. The RCCL personnel are professional, courteous, and ready to please. The food was excellent and enjoyable. My only complaint was two pieces of cake I ate were drier than I like. There were plenty of options for entertainment on board. I enjoyed the FlowRider and climbing wall. The Fitness Center was a little claustrophobic on the first morning of the cruise near the dumbbells [up to 75#]. Our stateroom was comfortable and the balcony was a nice upgrade.

Embarkation

Better signage would help significantly. We purchased key access but never received an email about early check-in. If my wife had not searched, we would have missed our early boarding and lunch

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining room service by Mate and Joanna were excellent. After the first night, they remembered our preferences and were timely in their service. Mate was excellent in his descriptions and question answering. The Windjammer buffet was very good with many options, healthy, protein based and vegetarian. We ate pizza once, I prefer thick crust. I was not pleased with the cafe service, I purchased the coffee option and only received a large coffee once out of ten times I ordered there. I don't know what the problem was, language barrier, they didn't like me, or something else. Others received large or Venti drinks!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The pool was acceptable. I rode the FlowRider once, I climbed the rock wall, but the fitness center was too aerobic based with treadmills. I was surprised to see 75# DBs, but the space was ridiculously small- especially Sunday morning.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Tracta was very good and funny, he was enjoyable but perhaps over the top. The one dance and singing show was horrendous, as far as I was concerned. The guy they chose to sing the Aerosmith song made Steven Tyler roll over in his grave, and he is alive. We enjoyed the trivia shows. I was not a fan of the musicians and music at the pools on deck 11. Not my style.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The main dining room service by Mate and Joanna were excellent. After the first night, they remembered our preferences and were timely in their service. Mate was excellent in his descriptions and question answering. Flor our room attendant was pleasant, always saying hello and taking care of the room. The wait staff in the Windjammer were excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The event staff were funny and polite. Again, my only complaint was the cafe workers.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Everything was clean and well attended. Fitness Center resistance training area to cramped with machines.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The room was comfortable and we enjoyed the balcony and the view from it. The bed was a little hard for our liking. Another outlet would have been handy in the bed area. The bathroom was satisfactory. The storage area was adequate as well.

Ship tip

For some of the shows and games, arrive earlier rather than later. The April Wine song in the rock music trivia game is called "Roller."

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Where we left from- the shuttle service to the Pier 14 indoor parking was slow.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

We went to Chaccoban or whatever it was called through Choice Privileges special deals. The excursion was good, finding the place was challenging.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
We went on a Jeep tour through Choice Privileges. It was good, but too many 'shopping' detours and I didn't want the hard sell of every vendor there. That gets OLD.

Disembarkation

Probably because my wife wanted to eat in the dining room with the Key breakfast. I was ready to leave. We stood outside with our luggage for too long, sweating. I am not a fan of the facial recognition technology used to reenter the USA.
