It was a spur of the moment booking for my birthday. A very different demographic to the cruises out of Australia, but I felt this enhanced our experience. We had great service and felt really well rested on our return home.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
As Platinum C & A members, we just breezed through. It probably took 20 minutes from getting out of the taxi to getting into the room.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
A very different menu to those in Australia sailings. Geared to the Asian customer, but with a few Western options also. Food was always served hot, steaks cooked as requested, vegetables cooked perfectly. Windjammer was too crowded, so only used it once, but the food standard was good.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
This was only a 5 night cruise, so apart from a Basic Mandarin class, we didn't join in any activities. Used the Solarium a few times and always found a lounger. It was pleasing to note that the staff were strict with the no children rule.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We only watched the Headliner show The Aussie Boys. Very good standard and I was impressed by the fact they sang in both English and Mandarin.
Children's Programs
Travelled as a couple.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service was excellent. Bar staff had much more time than on Australian cruises when the bars are packed. Although it was ESea dining, the waiters saved the table for us each night. Room steward worked quickly and well. Not at all intrusive. Hardly saw him, yet the room was always serviced however long we were out.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It is very difficult to maintain a ship that is at sea so often, but the maintenance staff were always working on it. Common areas were clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The Junior Suites are a great size. There is so much storage. Bed was comfortable and although I had read that cabins on Deck 10 are noisy, we weren't disturbed at all.
Ship tip
Remember that there are only a few hours between the end of one cruise and the beginning of the next and that the ship is constantly on the water, so you will inevitably see some wear and tear. It is a lovely ship and hard to believe it is 19.
We took the ship's excursion to Hue, about One and a half hours from the port. The guide was very interesting and the journey passed quickly. There was a lot to see and I understand that they have to make sure we return to the ship on time, but the guide was too fast and didn't hold his number up. Quite a few of us lost track of him. By luck some found him and asked him to wait for us, but by the time we arrived at the coach stop, they had gone on for lunch. Luckily another guide fro the same company saw us and took us in a taxi for the lunch. We arrived before the coach! If you go on a tour and the guide is fast, tell him to slow down.
We did not book a tour. There are many taxis near the jetty where the tenders dock. We asked for a taxi to take us to the market. He waited fir us and then took us to the beach afterwards. You can rent loungers on the beach. We stopped in front of the Louisiane Brewhouse and had a wonderful lunch with a local beer. We chose to walk back to the tender from here. It took about 40 minutes, but there was plentyof shade.
I have heard so many good reports on the Voyager of the seas. From friends. If the ship ship is any thing like the explorer of the seas. My friend and I will have a fabulous time.
