Review summary

This was our first cruise and we had a really good time. There are plenty of activities during your days at sea and many different shore excursions to choose from depending on your desires. The one slight drawback seems to be all of the Add-Ons (Refreshment pkg, Internet pkg, Photo pkg, Gratuities, etc) that drives up the cost. These are obviously not required, but are typically additions most people want and could end up doubling (or more) the cost of your cruise. Overall a good trip and I would do it again especially now that I know the details.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy luggage drop-off and entry onto the ship. We could go straight to our cabin to get settled and then the muster call was coordinated well. We also had a funny host for our section.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Lunch and dinner in the Windjammer café was good with a variety of selections. Breakfast wasn't great as the eggs were typically runny and the other items were average. However, the omelet bar was good. Dinner in the main dining room was good, but not great. Probably 3 out of 5 stars. There was typically a bar within reasonable distance on the main activity decks. Sometimes there could be a line where you would have to wait for 10 minutes or so.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Always something going on and plenty to do depending on how involved you wanted to be. Shows in the Majestic Theater were good. Teen activities were just ok. Ship could use more amenities for entertainment of kids/teens.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Could use a better nightlife club for adults. The one onboard is more of a lounge.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Teen activities were just ok. Ship could use more amenities (water activities, sports, better club/nightlife) for kids/teens.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I would say all of the staff were very engaging, helpful and customer centric. Our stateroom attendant (Rey) was very attentive and helpful for our needs.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Beds were a little stiff and bowed. Could use some better mattresses.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas Did not visit port

We live near Galveston, so we just showed up to load and unload from the cruise.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
We took an off-road jeep excursion through town and then over to a nice, remote hacienda with its own peaceful beach area. The owner was very personable and took care of all of us with great drinks and food. Our tour guides were very fun and engaging. Great trip overall.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We couldn't go over to the Mexico mainland due to the cartel issue with the ferry transport, so we spent time on the island and had a great trip to some Mayan ruins and the Cacao factory. Patricio was a great tour guide and had in-depth knowledge of the Mayan culture and the island. We also spent some time a paradise beach where we had some good food, drinks and beach time. Great excursions.
