Review summary

Let's see. Departed 10 hours late causing us to skip one of the ports of call. Food not up to standards on other ships. Finally docked in Cozumel at 5 pm Sunday evening when 95% of everything in the city was closed. ( Even many the locals were surprised at a ship docking on a Sunday night ) Entertainment / movies so-so. Bingo event last night at sea was an event to forget. It was, by my standards a substandard cruise.

Embarkation

Getting on board went smoothly. Our room met all expectations. The ship itself, tho smaller than I was used to, was acceptable. What caused a major problem was sitting in port for over 10 hours due to weather conditions while the captain continued to be evasive about when we would sail. Hour followed hour, announcement followed announcement, as we remained dockside. As a guest I felt I being lied to when a two hour delay became four, four became eight, etc., etc. It was not the way to start any vacation cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Mixed reviews. The dine in complimentary restaurants were above average. Excellent food, great service, comfortable surroundings. It made dining for a wonderful experience. The buffet was a great disappointment. On numerous occasions the food was cold, the presentation in the buffet line of many of the entrees was less than appetizing, the choices did not change much from day to day, and many of the windows in the buffet dining area were dirty. It was enough to ruin anyones appetite.

Onboard Activities

The adult only pool / solarium area was the one part of the ship i enjoyed. Water was perfect, plenty of chairs, and a relaxed atmosphere. The jogging path on Level 10 was also a favorite. The ship showed only two movies, neither one of them a major film, and kept alternating them the entire cruise. If you had already seen one/both you were out of luck. One evening we attempted to watch one but approx. 1/3 of the way into the presentation a large number of children began to use the pool, making a large amount of noise, totally ruining our ability to concentrate on the movie.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
One evening we went to a show in the theater when a comedian was performing. I have to admit I have never seen a more disgusting show aboard any ship. His major topics of humor were urine, bodily functions, and other aspects that he evidently thought were acceptable for families in attendance. I will admit that many in the audience enjoyed it. Although in the area I was sitting, many did not and some even walked out. as we did.

Children's Programs

No children were in our party.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service by the crew to include all waiters, our room steward, most bartenders, and the personnel I had contact with was excellent.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
I don't think I've ever been on a ship that had so many dirty windows. Whether it was in the dining areas, the decks, the different bars, everywhere we walked or sat a dirty window could be seen. The ship itself was clean and well maintained but a window that shows dirt, debris, etc., can easily spoil the view, the moment, the day, and / the entire cruise.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin met all expectations. It had more than enough room, comfortable bedding, a nice balcony, spacious bathroom, convenient shelving, and good closet space.

Ship tip

Don't expect to get the level of amenities, on board service, prepared food, and especially entertainment that you would normally get on a larger cruise ship. The Oasis seemed to think that as long as they provided SOMETHING that would be enough. They fell short in so many categories that are essential to any successful cruise I cannot begin to mention them all.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas Did not visit port

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico Did not visit port

Because we left Galveston 10 hours late. None the ships crew seemed to mind. I guess it was only the passengers who were upset that a part of the cruise was just eliminated.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Well worth the time. Good shopping. Great weather. Friendly people throughout the island. Too bad we only had 8 hours to enjoy it.

Disembarkation

Well run. Very organized. Helpful staff. One of the better aspects of the cruise. I couldn't wait to get off.

Everybody that sails out of Galveston during the fog/ rain season from November through March every year seems to be dealing with port delays. But nobody bothers to take into account average weather conditions for this port at this time of year except the harbor master and all of the cruise lines and shipping lines using the port.

Agreed lol

Port operations are very fluid and become hard to predict for the ships crew as they are at the mercy of the harbor master. Apparently weather delays are not uncommon in Galveston during the winter. You were fed, sheltered and had entertainment - lemons and lemonade.
