Review summary

As a first time cruiser I will say it is ok, but I don't like to spend too much time on the ship, and more exploring the ports. I booked this cruise to take my mom on her first cruise, she loved the experience, but I will not book another cruise in this particular ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was done quickly, specially considering that it was delayed several hours because of the hard freeze that we had in Houston.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
There was plenty of food and I consider it to be decent. Good variety in the buffets, and the main dinning room. we never ate the same food in any of the meals.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
we did not participated in any of the activities. so it is hard to give a grade

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The 2 musical shows were good. They are NOT Broadway, but they were entertaining and fun. We did not go to the comedy shows

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone on board was very friendly, ready to help, and our dinner waiter was the best. This is the one thing I think Royal Caribbean can score excellent if I compare it with other cruises we did. Excellent customer service.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
My main complain is that the smell of cigarettes coming from the casino was unbearable! you can smell it yard away from it in the main lobby. There has to be a way to get that out of the ship without contaminating the rest of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Good size cabin, always kept clean, but I guess they are cutting cost by not providing with toiletries that I expected and are provided in other cruise lines: hair conditioning and body lotion, and some cotton rounds or make up towels. Thankfully I traveled with some of my own.

Ship tip

this is a large ship compared with Vikings Ocean ships, but this ship rocked and shake a lot, even when the sea wasn't to bad. You can feel the shaking of the engine all the way to the 6th deck, and the humming it on the 3rd deck cabins. the ship is old and I think it needs some engine fixing and some modern technology to prevent from rocking so much.

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

3 out of 5
Progreso is not a place to visit, you must take a tour and go to Merida at least. We visited some ruins and did the city tour which was decent.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Cozumel has a lot to do in itself, but I recommend taking a tour or at least a taxi to go and visit the town, outside the shopping area next to the port.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
we did self check out which was fast, and did it in less than an hour going through immigration and customs. the only thing I did not like is that I requested a wheelchair for my mom but it was not provided because we did self check out, even though I carried our luggage.
