Wrong dates - 2017 - 10-17 just Montreal to New York only not to Ft. Lauderdale by clintonary233

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Sky / Destination: North America

Should have been in NY longer - half a day was not enough. we docked at noon - had to have bags out by 10pm Also, would have liked longer in Halifax. Gaspe was ok but not exciting.

Mixed, ship excellent, customer service poor by Temple11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Sky / Destination: Europe

This is for a 2018 booking. We had booked this trip well in advance. Have been on 4 river cruises and one prior ocean cruise on Viking plus other river trips with other tour carriers. Have been completely satisfied with their service, optional tours, food and entertainment on ship. Think some client reviewers have unrealistic expectations for smaller ships. Vietnam and Cambodia was outstanding.

The travel service would be a 2 and detracts from the on board experience. On a recent trip to Europe with many seasoned travelers had similar viewpoints as mine. Only use their travel if included with the package you purchase or very difficult to arrang transfer to ship. They get the cheapest flights that can include an extra stopover and last boarding priority on the flights. We booked early on the Viking  Homelands trip for 2018. Viking rerouted the ship and had to change trip. We had encouraged two other couples to join us. All booked on the same portion of the ship. We had arranged the trip schedule to have optional train trip from Bergin to Oslo at end to insure no jet lag. As result of redirecting the ship, we are on different floors and optional train trip is at start of voyage. The customer support were not helpful and borderline insulting on their rationale.

It will all will work out but be cautious on land support.

A few words of caution if you are an avid cruiser. by Ellenfreeman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Sky / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Our second Viking cruise. First one was a river.

Have used Silver Seas, Crystal and  Oceania.

Thought being on a brand new ship would be the best. Was pretty dissapointed in several things.

Most glaring was food was big dissapointment.

Only 2 places on ship to eat . Main dining room was unremarkable and buffet was same basic food everyday except the meat course.

Was almost impossible to get into the 2 other restaurants. Small and always booked by frequent Viking cruisers and people in the suites .

Wine choice was a white and a red, period.

Excursions never included lunch or time to explore and shop.

At several big city stops we had to be back at ship by 3:00 , not enough time to see a great city like Corfu and Dubrovnik.

But for some reason stayed till 6:00 at tiny towns that had little to see.

Climate control in our very small veranda room never did response to what we needed. We either sweated or froze.

There was literally no drawers or shelves to put personal items.

Compared to other luxury ships this was so surprising.

Lastly the entertainment . Basically there was not any. No  food and music theme nights at pool or guest musicians.(always the same 3)

On plus side ,staff was great. Nice size shower and extremely quiet room.

But Will be going back to other small cruise lines for our next vacation.

Wish we could be more positive but knowing ahead of time is always a plus.

Exceeded Expectations by CDNPolar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Sky / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I have learned that you must always read reviews with a grain of salt because what is often not included in the individual review is the past experience of the reviewer, OR more importantly the individuals expectation of the cruise they are about to go on.

I have cruised large ships before and now that I have experienced Viking Ocean, I will not return to that size of ship.

Viking Sky exceeded our expectations in every way.  Every element of the ship, the Crew, the food, the venues, the entertainment - everything was amazing.

Our checkin and welcome on the ship was fast, and easy.  Our luggage was at our cabin within an hour.

Viking has decorated this ship (and all their ships) with a "quiet elegance".  You can see the quality of furniture and appointments, but nothing is garish or overdone like some large ships that often look more like a Vegas hotel than tasteful.

The Crew were truly exceptional in our experience.  Crew knew our names on the second day, and since we bought the Silver Spirits package they also knew that most meals we started with Sparkling wine and then switched to either red or white.

We had no challenge getting additional reservations in the specialty restaurants and although another reviewer said there were only two places on the ship to eat, that is not correct.  There was also Mamsen's, the Pool Bar, the Viking Lounge, and Room Service.  Mamsen's and the Pool Bar both had different fare than the Restaurant or World Cafe.  Often too individuals don't realize that you can at all meals order items cooked for you at the World Cafe and you are not limited to what they put on the buffet table... in the morning you can have eggs cooked to your preference, at lunch grilled shrimp and other options, at dinner steaks and other options too.

The Restaurant had a static menu and each day had new items on the menu - often inspired by the country or city we were in that day.

I will agree with the other reviewer that some ports the departure time was tight to really spend time in that port.  This point I will agree with.  In some ports we found we would have liked more time but we were very pleased with all the included excursions and found them to give enough information about the country/city and were enough time to get what we really needed in information and history from a port of call.

The Cabin was certainly spacious enough for the two of us.  We arrived with two large suitcases and two carry on size.  We had enough drawers and closet space for all of our clothing and personal items and we did not pack light.  In fact we packed a bit heavy for this cruise because of the time of year the weather could be unpredictable.

We loved that the ship was not crowded anywhere.  There was sometimes a crowd in the World Cafe at breakfast when many excursions were leaving at the same time, but never enough that you waited or could not get a table when you walked in.

My biggest shout out is to the Crew.  We were so impressed with the Crew - how friendly they were and how they remembered our names and our preferences almost immediately.  This was one of the best parts.

Overall we give Viking Ocean and this Cruise on Viking Sky an overwhelming EXCELLENT in our review and we booked our next cruise on Viking Ocean while on the ship!

Well done Viking.  Looking forward to many more cruises with you!

Not Viking's best cruise by jmflipp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Sky

The food was excellent. Trip arbitrarily restricted for too long which made for long days on ship. I am thankful they are concerned about not spreading the virus, but they overreacted in what they closed for the entire cruise.

Enjoyable Cruise by katierney23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Sky

This cruise was a wonderful experience. Had never experienced Viking Ocean, but have already booked another. Smaller ship and a bit less formal than the larger cruise lines offer. Can't wait to go on another Viking Ocean cruise.
