We have always wanted to see the New England fall colors, we choose this cruise line mainly because it was so highly rated by CruiseCritics. Our disappointment was two-fold. First, we did not see much fall color on our trip. In most places we visited, we were told the fall color is very late this year. Secondly, on the Viking line itself, while the ship and stateroom were top of the line, the free cruise tours left much to be desired. Value wise, we did not feel Viking delivered.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was organized and painless. Free lunch buffet after check-in before we were allowed into our cabins.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Service in the main dining room was very slow which caused us to go to the buffets and specialty restaurants on most days.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Not a lot happenings around the ship. We spent a lot of time putting together jigsaw puzzles and catching up on missed TV series.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Did not catch all of the shows due to the late start time (9PM) Those that we did catch was very good. The singers were very talented.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Great service from everyone we met.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
This being the second year Viking Sea debuted, the ship is very clean and well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Great big TV with 4K like resolution made watching programs a joy. We made our trip in the middle of October and it was around 34 F in most of the places we visited, really appreciated the heated floor in the bathroom.
Ship tip
While in Boston, don't take the first tour in the morning. We were at Quincy Market around 9am but most places did not open till after 10:30am.
Did not see much of Saguenay. The play put on by the town people were nice. Could tell the players really enjoyed putting on the show for the tourists.
We took our own luggage and walked off the ship. As the ship was port in the middle of Manhattan, it was easy to grab a Uber to go to our next destination.
