Review summary
Just came back from Normandy cruise on Viking Pride. Did not know what to expect, previously took only ocean cruises. The first impression was the shock of how old and drabby this boat was. Badly needs refurbishing and brighter interior design. We came to Paris with an early flight, Viking rep was there, did not have to wait for a long time, they drove us to the boat, wich is parked about 20 min from Paris center. Our room was not ready and we waited in the lounge, they have good coffee machine and fresh pastries every morning, if you don't wish to go to the restaurant for breakfasts On the speakers they mostly have Sinatra, and at the lounge at night, one guy plays piano and sings. Also mostly American music. I would have liked to listen to Piaff or Aznavour, to feel more in France. We took short nap, and went along the Siene to Eiffel Tower, just 10 min of easy walk. Next day we took the tour of the city, it was great, came back to the ship, had lunch and went back to the center of Paris. Paris is very easy to enjoy by foot, the river and Bridges will not let you to get lost. Have the map with you. The itinerary was nice, we always wanted to go to Rouen, to see Cathedral, it is spectacular! Do not miss light show, unforgettable sight! The food was OK. Stuff is great. On the board, is not much to do, quite boring, but I compare this cruise with Ocean cruises, splendid ships, shows, bars, restaurants, dancing, tons of activity and if you want to go inside some country to see charming country sides and lovely towns, river cruises is a good way to do it. Also, about 95 percent of passengers are older people, I can understand the popularity of this cruises. It is easy and relaxing as you get to see a lot, sometimes 2 towns in one day. If I go again, I definitely would take a newer boat.
