Review summary

Our accommodations on this trip were phenomenal. The beginning of the Cruise actually starts with a three day stay in a luxurious hotel in Cairo. With tours and outings to various museums and the pyramids. What an adventure just traveling the city of Cairo, it’s markets, shops and other wonderful sites. Air transfers from Cairo to Luxor and return were well done. Our whole 14 day experience was once in a lifetime and made so much more enjoyable by our choosing Viking.

Embarkation

We did the Jerusalem pre-cruise extension so we flew from Tel Aviv to Cairo. Needless to say that flying into any strange airport can be daunting, but couple that experience with arriving into a uniquely foreign one and one’s anxiety levels step up dramatically. However, those fears were promptly put to rest upon being greeted by a friendly smiling face holding a “Viking” placard. The gentleman gathered our group together, made sure our visas were in order and off we set to navigate our way through Egyptian Customs. Smooth as silk! What a great experience!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We were the first passengers to sail on Viking’s newest addition to the Nile. The ship really lived up to the hype. The ship was built with comfort in mind and while smaller than the typical long boats seen elsewhere in the Viking inventory, no short cuts were taken. Staterooms were very comfortable and somehow seemed a bit more spacious. The bath and shower were also a bit larger and easier for two people to share. The restaurant and dining experiences were top notch.

Onboard Activities

The Sundeck on the Orisis is a wonderful spot to view and experience the Nile River. The pool is not what you expect on a smaller vessel like the Orisis, but it offers a welcome spot to sit and refresh yourself on those warm Egyptian days/nights.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows included local flavors which Viking is well known for.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every person on board the ship did their level best to make our cruise experience relaxing and wonderful. Our Hotel Manager, Karolyn’s was FIRST RATE! When one of our party experienced an unfortunate injury that necessitated an early return home for medical attention, Karoline went the extra mile in helping and arranging their departure and travel back home. While the experience was unfortunate for the couple, it was personally comforting to us knowing that that level of support and care was available should the need arise.
