Wonderful experience. The Viking ship and personnel are among the best if not the best. Needed 2 days in Singapore, and only 1 in Jakarta. Do get the Bali extension as the island is beautiful.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Fast and efficient. The transfer process from the airport was much better than expected. While we had to do verifly beforehand regarding covid, they did not ask to see it. Perhaps they had a record of it being submitted and did not need to see again.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We had dinner in the specialty restaurants about half the evenings. We had the drinks package, which was needed since the included wines were low end. The service teams were excellent.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Viking has limited onboard activities by design (no casino, picture nonsense, art auctions, etc). We did everything available since we had a few days at sea. The pools, gym, and spa were quite good. The afternoon tea was nice. The putting green is smallish, but did burn some time there. They had ping pong table and shuffleboard.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The shows were meh as they were mostly songs from the 60s or Beatles, boring for a few decades now. The cruise directors were fun. The internet service was spotty many times.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Really top notch. Every person you passed greeted you. Room was always super clean.
Ship Quality

Viking is the best in this regard
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Really all you need. Very comfortable bed, sensible layout. We have had larger cabins before and the one shortcoming of this size is that there is only enough room at the end of the bed for 1 person to pass. It is surprising how many times both of us were trying to traverse this narrow space at the same time. The only other rub was the screw noise out on the balcony (cabin is rear of ship) was louder than expected. We determined this was due to the infinity pool that overhung the cabin caused the noise to rebound onto the deck. The noise was not as noticeable when we were down on deck 2 promenade, closer to the actual noise.
Ship tip
Bring your own entertainment (e.g. books, movies) if you have days at sea.
Bangkok is a much larger city than expected (11 million). The city is a 2-hour one-way drive from the port, which can get tedious when you go in 2 days. We enjoyed the stuff we saw each day on the excursions, one included and one paid. Three stars due the transit time.
Impressed by the city until we went to Singapore, which is on the highest level. We did a paid excursion and enjoyed it. English speaking was never an issue in any port.
One of the most incredible cities we have ever been too (we have been to major cities in 60 countries). Went out on our own in the morning, and saw Raffles hotel. Did a tremendous paid excursion in the afternoon. Wish we could have had a second day in Singapore.
After Singapore, hard to be positive about Jakarta. We did the included tours and had a fine time both days. Would have much rather had 2 days in Singapore than the 2 we had in Jakarta.
Paid for the traditional fire dance evening show at the bird park. It was okay, and maybe not worth the cost. We did a post stay in Bali -- highly recommend. The resort was 5-star and the included excursion was very good.
