Embarkation was quick and easy. We checked in early and our room was ready. We checked in early and had time to enjoyed the lunch buffet and relax before sailing.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Local dishes were featured on the dinner menu in every port.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Activities were limited. The glassblower and Viennese waltz dancers were good. The Oompah band was excellent.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
There was a piano player in the lounge in the evenings. He played very well, but his singing left a lot to be desired.
Children's Programs
Children are not permitted on Viking.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was excellent from top to bottom. Restaurant and bar staff were efficient, attentive, and a lot of fun. they enjoyed chatting with the guests.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was spotless.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was small, but we had enough storage. We chose the French balcony and that was a good choice. We had a large window that was the height of the pier. We spent most of our waking hours outside of the room, wo we did not miss an actual balcony.
Ship tip
Be prepared to be a bit flexible. Delays in the locks required the captain and crew to make some port drop off and pickup changes on the fly. They did a masterful job with minimal inconvenience to the guests. And a second tip - find a good spot to relax and enjoy the hours sailing the Rhine. That is when you will see the beautiful castles that are featured in the Viking TV commercials.
We spent a few days on our own in Amsterdam. The Anne Frank House and Rijksmuseum are worth a visit. Make sure you take a food walking tour and canal cruise.
We took the "leisurely" option of the included tour. The cathedral is beautiful, but we didn't see much else. However, we recommend the dinner and beer crawl at night. Lots of fun.
Nice town. We were there for the feast of the Pentecost and enjoyed the town celebration with costumed townspeople, singing, dancing, etc. A nice surprise!
We went to the Zeppelin Field (Nazi rally grounds) and the courthouse where the Nazi trials were held. Our guide was probably one of the best tour guides we ever had. He was exceptionally informative and was able to answer any question posed.
We did not tour anything except the Melk Abbey, which is impressive and worth the time. A nice surprise extra was being able to listen to a choir rehearse for a wedding later that day.
Beautiful city. Easy to get around and very walkable. Highlight was the excursion to the Spanish Riding School that included a carriage ride through the Old City.
