I'm glad I did a river cruise, don't know I'd go again.
If you are someone who likes to see and do a lot, like us, I would rather rent a car and stay in one place and be able to eat when I want, not be time pressured to get on the boat. Additional excursions were $$$. But if you want everything done for you and mot want to think about transportation, etc. the cruise is a good option.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
It went smoothly but flights that Viking booked were terrible times. We missed out on the 1st day in Budapest. BJ agent wasn't helpful and trying to change the flights was a nightmare.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
There were plenty of options and the food was fine, not great. You could get any drink yu wanted and they weren't shy about a good pour. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all scheduled and 1 time seating. If you spent the day in the city you missed lunch and there were no options between meals to get a snack.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
There was a tour each morning in every new city. Evening was mostly a talk for the next day. Trivia was a blast. The cultural talk one night was dry. There really is no onboard entertainment on a river cruise. It's relaxing.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Everything ran like clockwork. Staff and Crew were excellent. Always very helpful and they never said no.
Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The room is what we expected. Small but clean. The shower was a bit too small if you were a big person.
Ship tip
Book your own flights. No need to go through BJ's.
Lost time the 1st day. Budapest by night (extra cost) excursion was not worth it. Guide wasn't knowledgable, bus driver didn't know hos way around and we were supossed to have a rooftop drink at a hotel. It was raining so no rooftop but they had us stand in the courtyard in rain to have a glass of champagne. Next tour was good but we didn't have time in the city to explore on our own.
The tour was fine. the city is very nice, had plenty of time on our own. They advertise 2 days in Regensberg but due to the terrible flights we had, my husband and I had to leave the boat at 4am. So really no day 2. Got to the airport at 6:20am for a 9:30am flight, then a 3 hour layover in Amsterdam.
