Sun Princess by Lancashire123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Sun Princess

We had the first two cruises cancelled. We were originally booked for 40 nights but have only done 20 nights. In some ways I am rather glad. The ship itself is very different to other Princess vessels and I can’t make my mind up if that’s good or bad. We have sailed over 100 cruises with Princess for context. The food in the Signature Restaurant was absolutely excellent and the service was impeccable, as it has been in all areas we have been in. I am mildly disappointed with our Sky Suite, it just doesn’t compare to the Sky Suites on Royal class ships, the balcony is rather small and the living area feels rather small and cramped in comparison. The design is sleek and is a nice cabin but it doesn’t live up to its predecessor. The ship is very modern overall and has a completely different feel. I am not overly keen on the piazza, it is quite soulless really and has been turned into a bit of a nightclub, the huge screen also does not help. I am also not impressed that Princess has chosen to add the ‘Park 19’ concept, it just doesn’t belong on a Princess ship. Overall, she does have the potential to be a great ship with some areas being absolutely amazing (Crooners and Signature Sun Deck). I have booked a number of B2Bs on Star Princess’ inaugural season but we are weighing it up now. I think that Princess needs to tweak a few things. We have had a good time overall though.

Sailing on the Sun Princess by Bbahm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Sun Princess

The hits on the Sun Princess included the space in our stateroom (sans the firmness of the mattress), the Medallion and Princess Plus package, the salads and pizza on the Lido deck, and The Catch by Rudi. I also want to add the Spa – my husband enjoyed his first ever massage! And the staff we met were first class. The misses: a lack of onboard entertainment – the mechanical zip line was inoperable – no clear direction on where the juice bar was (we asked and no one gave clear directions), the Piazza (other than being able to look out and see the sea and ports), and one big miss from my husband: their Mint Juleps (for some odd reason they felt the need to add club soda, which is never a part of the drink – he’s from Kentucky and knows the recipe). Once he pointed this out, they made it correctly for him. Overall, I’m afraid the misses outweigh the hits. That being said, we’re open to taking another cruise with Princess, but on a different ship. The Sun Princess fell short of the hype surrounding its launch and it came in with a solid C-minus.
