Review summary

The Statendam is an older ship, but she is in great shape. The staff was one of the best I have sailed with. I can not comment on the dining room as we spent all our time in the lido.

We had cabin 410 on the lower promenade deck. The only bad thing was this is the walking deck. During the day you can not see into the cabin. However, at night with the lights on you can. So make sure you close your drapes.

The highlight of the cruise was Chris Bartlett, solo guitarist in the mix bar. What a talent. Tried not to miss a minute he played.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
To be fair we did not dine in the dining room, but the lido. The lido was good food for the buffet.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Chris Bartlett solo guitarist was fantastic.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff we dealt with were the best.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is in fantastic shape.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was spacious. Only complaint is our cabin was on the lower promenade. At night you can see into the room with the lights on.so close the drapes.

Ship tip

The ship is small so it is easy to navigate. Most everything you will be looking for is on the promenade deck ( deck 8). The mix and piano bar and the explores lounge for a coffe or tea. The navigation deck pool is not as crowded as the main pool.

Ports of call

San Diego, California

Nice embarkation port

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Cabo is ok, seeing lands end is cool.

Puerto Chiapas (Tapachula), Mexico

3 out of 5
You have to book an excursion here as nothing is near the port. However, there is a nice pool and a small restaurant if you do not want to leave the port.

Fuerte Amador, Panama

5 out of 5
This is a tender port. We took the hop,on hop off bus. It stopped all thought the city and out to the Panama Canal locks.

I'm with you, I can listen to a great guitarist forever.  A great guitarist on a cruise ship is even better.

We did not experience any distracting noise. If the drapes are not completely closed. You will see shadows of people walking by during the day.

I don't think that I would want to be on this deck if you can see into the cabin at night.  However, we probably draw our drapes at night anyway.  I wonder if it is noisy in the cabin from people walking by and talking outside your window?
