We have previously cruised twice on another cruise line, and expected more from Princess. This cruise was to celebrate the ending of my wife's chemo therapy. We provided tickets for ourselves, our two sons, their wives, and their kids. A total of nine. Along with us was my wife's brother and his wife and their two kids. We were in suite C751, and provided inside cabins for the kids. When we arrived on board we asked an employee at the guest services desk and 4 other different staff members throughout the next 35 minutes for directions to our suite, all five instruction were wrong, it took 35 minutes and alot of walking to find our room. Our suite was magnificent with a gorgeous view and all the amenities you could ask for. That being said, my son's cabin number C711, was hot the entire time even though he reported a problem with a malfunctioning thermostat the very first day, nobody contacted him regarding the reported issue for 2 days, after several further reports they were finally told, that maybe they had a different comfort level than other people. He told them that the green light was not working, and was told that none of them do. He said that wasn't true because the one in his parents room (mine) does, it was never addressed. My wife was showering the first morning when the glass soap tray, (which was not screwed in) fell off the wall, shattering on the shower floor, my wife's feet were cut in three places. When the incident was reported to our steward, he promptly cleaned the shower floor and reported it to his superior, that gentleman came to the room and stated to my wife "maybe it happened, because you are not use to a small shower in relation to your size". Customer service aside, there is no need to be rude, kindness and concern should be a given in that situation! The staff obviously works very hard, and that fact was obvious in their body language, they did whatever was asked of them, although not with a smile, they did not act as though they enjoyed their jobs for the most part, there were a few exceptions in the Capri dinning room. We booked an excursion including whale watching, salmon bake and the Mendenhall Glacier on 5/20/2013 for 9 of us, the salmon bake was canceled from the beginning, we were notified on the bus (#1138) before leaving, the air conditioning on the bus was not working, and blowing hot air (like heater air), when the driver was notified she stated, "turn it off, nothing I can do about it." The whale watching was then canceled when we arrived at the location due to weather concerns, sunny, calm winds.... unusual, but they then took us to the Glacier, were never told prior to going that we would have such a short time there. We arrived at 12:55 and only then were told we needed to back at the bus by 2:00. Given that time frame, we were unable to even walk to the waterfall, since it is close to an hour walk by itself. We totally understand that things get canceled due to weather and such, these are beyond your control, although the charge if any, for the 65 minutes at the Glacier should not have exceeded at the very most $20.00 a person. We checked with the excursion office the next day and were told there was no charge, then the morning of disembarkation, we noted a large charge posted to our bill for that excursion, along with another passenger, and after much effort, and very poor customer service, we were credited $120.00. Speaking of customer service.... after arriving home my son noted a different amount charged to his credit card, much larger than what his bill had reflected, when he called to inquire as to why, he was told, "we always do that, wait for a couple days and it should be straightened out", stange business protocol. Just a question, when did you stop making animals out of the towels, and putting them on the beds each night? We are sorry that is no longer being done with the Princess Line, my grandkids were looking so forward to it, it was one of the highlights for them on our previous cruises. The beauty of Alaska certainly made this cruise memorable, we are sorry that the experience on this cruise line was so different than our prior cruising experiences. If it had been our first cruise, we likely would not choose it as a vacation option in the future.
