Arnold Browns review by maggiemae

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We have previously cruised twice on another cruise line, and expected more from Princess. This cruise was to celebrate the ending of my wife's chemo therapy. We provided tickets for ourselves, our two sons, their wives, and their kids. A total of nine. Along with us was my wife's brother and his wife and their two kids. We were in suite C751, and provided inside cabins for the kids. When we arrived on board we asked an employee at the guest services desk and 4 other different staff members throughout the next 35 minutes for directions to our suite, all five instruction were wrong, it took 35 minutes and alot of walking to find our room. Our suite was magnificent with a gorgeous view and all the amenities you could ask for. That being said, my son's cabin number C711, was hot the entire time even though he reported a problem with a malfunctioning thermostat the very first day, nobody contacted him regarding the reported issue for 2 days, after several further reports they were finally told, that maybe they had a different comfort level than other people. He told them that the green light was not working, and was told that none of them do. He said that wasn't true because the one in his parents room (mine) does, it was never addressed. My wife was showering the first morning when the glass soap tray, (which was not screwed in) fell off the wall, shattering on the shower floor, my wife's feet were cut in three places. When the incident was reported to our steward, he promptly cleaned the shower floor and reported it to his superior, that gentleman came to the room and stated to my wife "maybe it happened, because you are not use to a small shower in relation to your size". Customer service aside, there is no need to be rude, kindness and concern should be a given in that situation! The staff obviously works very hard, and that fact was obvious in their body language, they did whatever was asked of them, although not with a smile, they did not act as though they enjoyed their jobs for the most part, there were a few exceptions in the Capri dinning room. We booked an excursion including whale watching, salmon bake and the Mendenhall Glacier on 5/20/2013 for 9 of us, the salmon bake was canceled from the beginning, we were notified on the bus (#1138) before leaving, the air conditioning on the bus was not working, and blowing hot air (like heater air), when the driver was notified she stated, "turn it off, nothing I can do about it." The whale watching was then canceled when we arrived at the location due to weather concerns, sunny, calm winds.... unusual, but they then took us to the Glacier, were never told prior to going that we would have such a short time there. We arrived at 12:55 and only then were told we needed to back at the bus by 2:00. Given that time frame, we were unable to even walk to the waterfall, since it is close to an hour walk by itself. We totally understand that things get canceled due to weather and such, these are beyond your control, although the charge if any, for the 65 minutes at the Glacier should not have exceeded at the very most $20.00 a person. We checked with the excursion office the next day and were told there was no charge, then the morning of disembarkation, we noted a large charge posted to our bill for that excursion, along with another passenger, and after much effort, and very poor customer service, we were credited $120.00. Speaking of customer service.... after arriving home my son noted a different amount charged to his credit card, much larger than what his bill had reflected, when he called to inquire as to why, he was told, "we always do that, wait for a couple days and it should be straightened out", stange business protocol. Just a question, when did you stop making animals out of the towels, and putting them on the beds each night? We are sorry that is no longer being done with the Princess Line, my grandkids were looking so forward to it, it was one of the highlights for them on our previous cruises. The beauty of Alaska certainly made this cruise memorable, we are sorry that the experience on this cruise line was so different than our prior cruising experiences. If it had been our first cruise, we likely would not choose it as a vacation option in the future.

Star Princess to Hawaii by Fredtessa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

The ship was very nice;however, certain amenities were lacking--no game room and very few games available, very small library, no lounge chairs on the promenade deck, only deck chairs, the quality of entertainment was ok, but did not hold up to other cruise lines, and the wait staff while very good was also not up to prior cruises on other lines. On the plus side our stateroom was very nice, the food was excellent, and there was more than enough seating all around the ship. We would not choose Princess again, unless it was an exceptional value.

Great way to visit Hawaii by HERB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

The cruise experience was terrific, with relaxing days away from all the usual activity of life. No cell phone, no email, just time with my wife and meeting new friends! The stops in the Islands were great, with enough time to enjoy but still be back on board for a great evening meal. We especially enjoyed our evening walks around the entire ship, exercising and listening to the sounds of life on the ocean...including a couple of whales and some dolphins!

Great Trip by EHile

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: South America

Princess Cruises was well organized and provided us with a great trip. The Star Princess was very nice and seemed to be well maintained. The ports vised were interesting and the stays were just about the right amount of time. On the sea days, my wife very much enjoyed the Brudge Classes, very well done. Some of the other programs did not match up to some of the other crusises we have taken.

It was much more than I expected. by BonnieM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was perfect. Our stateroom was great. The crew was most helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make sure you got everything you wanted. The tours were beyond words. The ports were great. The only thing was the spa staff was very agressive with the sales of product after evey visit. I would be hesitant to visit the spa next time because of this even though it was a very well appointed spa and the services were great. Lauren, the spa manager, did her best to try and make thing right. She was very helpful.

The way to be pampered by DavidD16

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Very nice and clean. The staff was wonderful. Smoking smelled up a lot of the areas of the ship. I took the south passage last time and the ship was much nicer and the cruise was laid out much better without that much sailing on the open water and more ports for a longer period. Victoria was a waste Arriving in the evening and leaving at midnight . The first day and a half was very rough in the open seas. The other souDecor was average. th bound passage was in the straight most of the time and much smoother. Food on this cruise was excellent and the cruise director was fabulous. Clean organized and very nice except for the smoking and the long sailing on open water. I would recommend the south passage 10 to 1 over the Seattle Cruise.

The ship and crew were very good. It was our 3rd cruise and we had fun and were lucky with the weather so all our excursions worked well. We went salmon fishing and had a salmon we caught for dinner one evening, it was very good and the presentation was Teriffic ! . . . we' ll do it again ! ! ! Marcia did a great job of keeping us informed and was very responsive to all my requests !

Great Cruise by SueF1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska

I liked the Star Princess. It needs a little updating in places, especially the railings on the top levels - they were getting pretty worn and were not smooth in some places. But, overall it is a nice ship, everything is clean, the staff for the most part was amazing and the food was great.

Beautiful Cruise by DanL4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Nice ship, we had the mini-suite which was spacious. I heard form other passengers that the regular balcony rooms had very small bathrooms so I would recommend the mini-suites or larger rooms.
