Review summary
We had exception weather sunny and clear. We got to into the John Hopkins Glacier area. First ship to go there for Princess and was not on the itinerary. Ships can only go there after Sept 1. It was outstanding. Glacier Bay was beautiful and the Marjorie Glacier was great. The captain did a couple of 360's at the Glaciers. Thank You. Overall we enjoyed the Star and our 7 day cruise on Princess.

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We ate twice in the specialty restaurants (Crown and Sabatini's). Both were excellent and great service. The MDR service was good except for the last night it seemed to be overwhelmed in the Anytime dining room. My steak was cold and not cooked very good. Overall the food and menu was just OK in the MDR. The International cafe was good as always. Vines and tapas were great. The outside grill and hamburgers, etc. were good. The Horizon was good but only ate breakfast there once. Room service breakfast was exceptional.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Did not participate in many activities. Like the Naturalist's reviews and really helped to know where the best spots to be for whale and wildlife viewing along the cruise.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
All production shows we have seen before but they were good as in the past. One of our cruise mates won the Voice of the Ocean so that was fun.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Overall the service was very good especially in the Crown Grill and Sabatini's. Our room steward kept our room neat and clean at all times without interference. The crew staff was friendly and helpful as needed. The MDR waiters and staff were good expect for the last night as our server was overwhelmed as her assistant waiter was busy filling drink orders and did not help with the table and food delivery. Cold steak to us, etc.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Did not see any issues with ship cleanliness and saw a lot of ongoing cleanliness being done to keep the ship looking good.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin has a larger balcony which we used a lot as the weather was fantastic for Alaska. Clear and sunny. The cabin is small but as expected so no issue for us. The furniture looked new as did the carpet. Large TV and pretty good reception. The bed was very comfortable. No noise issues.
Ship tip
We enjoyed our short stay (7 days) on the Star. The Star has great amenities and everything we enjoy for cruising.
Third time to Juneau. Beautiful day there weather wise. We did the food walking tour excursion. Overall it was OK. Tracy's Crab Shack was the best. The walk was about 2 miles and took us off the main streets to a few restaurants. The food samples were just that small samples and just OK. Our tour guide was good and new a lot about the culinary happenings in Juneau. Beer tasting at the old Alaskan Hotel was great.
Took a ferry to Haines Alaska and then a jet boat up the Chilkat river. Not much to see in Haines. The jet boat tour started with a 45 minute bumping ride in a bus to get there. Bus driver was fun and gave us a lot of information about the area. Once there we had a hot dog and chili lunch which was pretty good. The jet boat tour was very nice and peaceful. Did not see any wildlife except some bald eagles. But the area covered can only be seen by boat and it was beautiful. At one point our jet boat driver went into a lake, turned off the engines and let us soak it all in. Only negative was there are a lot of mosquito's so load up on the repellent.
